Special Education Teacher (SETSS) - Brooklyn, NY - School Day - Full-Time
Overview/Impact:
Are you a passionate Special Education Teacher ready to make a significant impact on students' academic development in the Brooklyn area? Knowledge Road is looking for a full-time Special Education Teacher (SETSS) to join our team and provide critical support for students in NYC Department of Education (DOE) schools. With a substantial shortage city-wide of qualified special education teachers, your skills are urgently needed to help students get the individualized instruction they need. This is an opportunity to work directly with students who require specialized academic support, helping them reach their learning goals through targeted intervention and evidence-based teaching.
As a SETSS teacher with Knowledge Road, you will provide individualized and small-group instruction in educational settings, working closely with families and school teams to promote student progress and academic success.
Responsibilities:
As a Special Education Teacher (SETSS) with Knowledge Road, you will:
  • Provide high-quality, individualized, and small-group instruction for students with disabilities, as outlined in their Individualized Education Service Programs (IESP).
  • Ensure completion of each individual student's weekly IESP requirements and keep an intervention schedule aligned with the school schedule.
  • Develop and submit quarterly progress reports and maintain regular family communication with updates on progress and next steps.
  • Document service delivery and student performance in Knowledge Road's system with precise and timely documentation.
  • Create and implement engaging and effective lesson plans that meet the unique academic, social, and emotional needs of each individual student.
  • Collaborate with parents, teachers, and other school staff to build a supportive and inclusive learning environment for students.
  • Track and evaluate student progress, providing regular updates to families and school-based teams.
  • Attend IESP meetings as required, providing professional insights and recommendations to support

Qualifications:
• Valid NYS Students with Disabilities (B-2, 1-6, 7-12, or All Grades) or NYS Literacy Specialist.
• Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience.
• Must not have been employed by NYC DOE in the past 12 months.
• Experience teaching Mathematics and ELA.
• Dependable transportation.
• NYC DOE fingerprinting clearance required, or willingness to obtain prior to start.
Current Openings:
We are currently seeking candidates for the following full-time SETSS positions in the Brooklyn area:
Brooklyn, NY 11236: Individual setting, grades to be determined.
Brooklyn, NY 11209: Group setting, grades 7-12.
Schedule & Location:
This is a full-time, school-day role with a schedule aligned with the NYC DOE calendar. Services will be delivered on-site at a school in the Brooklyn area, with placements based on student needs. Weekly hours are determined by IESP mandates; caseload may fluctuate by placement. Typically ~20-30 hours/week , depending on caseload, with extra cases and hours available through coordination with our recruitment team.
Compensation:
$60 - $100 per hour (1099). Rates vary by group size and placement. Individual IESP sessions generally start at $60/hr.
