Our Industrial Electric installs and maintains complex electrical systems in the power utility space.ย  We work on a variety of substation projects and support much of the areaโ€™s electrical infrastructure.ย  We also work on other commercial projects throughout western New York.
Location: Rochester, NY
Position Overview: Our medium voltage crew performs various tasks related to electric cable installations and maintenance. This includes pulling de-energized primary electric cable, setting transformers, and terminating GIS switch gear.
Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Pulling de-energized primary electric cable.
  • Setting transformers.
  • Performing various splices, including transition joints across dead break kits, termination kits, and splice kits.
  • Termination in dead break kits.
  • Perform Hi-Pot testing and/or VLF testing.
  • Rigging โ€“ positioning of slings, chains, and ropes.
  • Promote continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.
  • Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Requirements:
  • Five years of experience in underground primary distribution work.
  • Valid NYS Driverโ€™s License.
  • CDL-B or CDL-A strongly preferred.
  • OSHA 10 certification.
  • Ability to envision cable routing.
  • Ability to read plan sheets.
  • Positive attitude; holds self-accountable for high quality work.
  • Record of reliability.
  • Willingness to take direction.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Desire to be trained in the safe performance of the work.
  • Comfortable with heights.
  • Able to perform extensive physical labor, including but not limited to: Digging with a hand bar or shovel to expose live utilities, heavy lifting, pushing, pulling, climbing into and out of trenches and manholes, over and under obstacles
  • Available for occasional overtime and on-call work.ย 

Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to lift and move heavy parts and equipment (up to 50 pounds or more).
  • Stamina to work in various weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold.
  • Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination for precise tasks.
  • Ability to stand, bend, stoop, and kneel for extended periods.
  • Good vision, including close-up and peripheral vision, for detailed inspections
  • Hearing ability to diagnose engine and equipment noises.
  • Works alone or alongside others.
  • Work outdoors year-round in all types of weather.
