This posting is for Summer 2027 Internship opportunities.
IMEG is hiring a Structural Engineering Intern in Naperville, Illinois. Over 10-12 weeks, you'll assist in the analysis, design, and implementation of structural systems in buildings and other structures while working closely with experienced engineers and consultants.
In this role, you'll support project documentation, coordination, and job site observations while helping the team work within project budgets and meet client expectations. You'll contribute to projects across commercial and institutional markets, gaining hands-on exposure to structural work in Chicagoland and the broader Midwest.

What You'll Do
  • Assist with structural system design tasks for projects in accordance with code and IMEG standards.
  • Research project-related resources and supporting information.
  • Support client relations, maintain the project design notebook, and provide documentation for permanent record files.
  • Coordinate design and schedules with architectural, structural, electrical, mechanical, technology, clerical, and supplier teams.
  • Document design decisions, meetings, and client instructions while monitoring design progress.
  • Review project documents for accuracy and completeness before final check.
  • Prepare and issue addendum information.
  • Conduct periodic job site observations and support other services required by the contract services agreement.
  • Work within the project's monetary budget while collaborating with cross-functional teams to meet project goals and client expectations.

What You'll Bring
Required
Education
  • Completed at least 2 years towards a Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Civil, Structural, or Architectural Engineering, or equivalent, required

Skills and Abilities
  • Strong interest in design consulting
  • Proficient with MS Office Suite including, but not limited to, Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Skilled in AutoCAD and/or Building Information Modeling (Building Information Model) software
  • Ability to clearly communicate in both oral and written communication to individuals or groups

Preferred
  • Prior internship experience in the building design consulting industry preferred

  • Our Naperville structural team focuses on industrial, commercial, civic, healthcare, and education work, with especially heavy activity in Chicagoland and broader Midwest markets.
  • Frequent assignments include industrial buildings, municipal and public safety facilities, school improvements, retail and commercial peer reviews, and targeted structural investigations.
  • Recent work includes Village of Schaumburg Public Safety Facility, Government (City/County/State), and Cardinal Health Glendale Heights Cyclotron Addition, Commercial.

State of Illinois Pay Range: $22.00-$24.00 per hour
The range listed above represents the base pay IMEG reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position in the work location identified above at the time of posting. For positions available in multiple locations, the minimums and maximums may vary based on work location.
Individual compensation will be determined based on job-related factors, including the candidate's experience, education, knowledge, skills, abilities, and licensure and certifications.
Other rewards may include annual bonuses and stock ownership options.
