Job description

Earl May Seed & Nursery has an opening for a Team Leader in our Green Goods Distribution Center. If you enjoy working in a fast-paced environment and can multi-task, while maintaining focus on the details, we would like to talk to you. If you love plants, like working with your hands and having the ability to make your own decisions and being responsible for those decisions, we have an opportunity for you.
The Team Leader will help to build and lead a team that assists with all aspects of our Earl May Green Goods Distribution Center operations in Shenandoah, Iowa, which includes but is not limited to training, coaching, nursery maintenance, shipping, receiving and team development.
This person will collaborate daily with other Team Leaders to achieve goals in terms of quality, efficiency, and overall financial performance.
What a day as Team Leader looks like:
  • Maintaining quality of nursery stock.
  • Ensuring the shipping team can ship stock that is superior in quality.
  • Assist with the inbound and outbound of all nursery product which includes checking for quality and consistency.
  • Assist in maintaining a current and accurate inventory and ensuring that the quality of the inventory is superior in size, color etc.
  • Coordinate with growers to maintain a pruning and fertilizing schedule.
  • Work with buyers on determining best times/stages for plants to be shipped to extend shelf life for our retail locations.

We Would Love It If You Had:
  • A High School degree or equivalent
  • 1-3 years' experience in leading or training a team (supervisor, manager, coach, teacher)
  • Any previous experience in the nursery industry would be a plus but not required.
  • An understanding of ownership and accountability and takes pride in the work they are doing.
