Engineering Manager – HSIO Connectors

As an Engineering Manager reporting to the Director of Engineering, you will be leading the design, qualification, and global launch of next-generation High-Speed I/O (HSIO) connector products. This is a highly visible leadership role where you will guide a global engineering organization, partner closely with customers and sales, and take full ownership of innovative products from concept through production. The position will be located in Schaumburg, IL.

What You’ll Do

Lead & Inspire Engineering Excellence

  • Provide technical leadership and strategic direction to a global HSIO connectors engineering team and local test laboratory.
  • Mentor, coach, and develop engineering talent to build a high-performing, collaborative, and growth-oriented team.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement.

Drive Product Development from Concept to Launch

  • Lead the design, prototyping, qualification, and successful launch of new HSIO connector products.
  • Own end-to-end project execution, ensuring milestones, timelines, and customer commitments are consistently achieved.
  • Collaborate closely with Design, NPI, Operations, and Manufacturing teams—particularly with partners in China—to transition products smoothly into production.

Own Technical Integrity & Quality

  • Approve and manage engineering deliverables including drawings, BOMs, and item masters.
  • Perform and review mechanical simulations, FEA, and tolerance analyses to ensure robust, manufacturable designs.
  • Resolve engineering, design, and production-related challenges efficiently and decisively.
  • Ensure all designs meet cost, performance, reliability, and manufacturability targets to win new business.

Partner with Customers & Stakeholders

  • Engage directly with customers and Sales to define product roadmaps, technical requirements, and delivery timelines.
  • Support marketing and engineering proposal development.
  • Present technical concepts clearly and confidently to internal stakeholders and external customers.
  • Provide monthly project status reports to management with clear recommendations and risk mitigation plans.

Qualifications

Education & Experience (Must Have)

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering.
  • 10 to 15 + years of progressive engineering experience.
  • 5 to 10+ years of project and/or people management experience.
  • Working with global teams, customers, and manufacturing partners is required.

Technical Expertise (Must Have)

  • Strong experience with 3D CAD systems (SolidWorks).
  • Deep knowledge of connector design or small mechanical/electrical components.
  • Hands-on expertise in:
    • Design for Manufacturing (DFM)
    • Metal stamping, injection molding, insert molding, and automated processes
    • Tolerance analysis and FEA simulation/modeling
  • Working knowledge of industry form factors: SFP, QSFP, QSFP-DD, OSFP.
  • Familiarity with standard connector testing procedures and industry best practices.
