Job description

JOB SUMMARY:

The Server is responsible for order taking and delivery of any food and beverage items to guests. This task is to be handled in a friendly, courteous, helpful, timely, and professional manner resulting in a very high level of guest satisfaction.

POSITION AUTHORITY:

The incumbent is authorized to take reasonable action necessary to carry out assigned duties and responsibilities, provided such action is consistent with position guidelines as outlined below.

POSITION GUIDELINES:

Position guidelines include, but are not limited to, established company and department policies and procedures and all supervisory directives. The incumbent is expected to exercise sound, reasonable judgment and initiative, and give high priority to accuracy and details in the performance of job responsibilities.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Check station before, during, and after shift for proper set-up and cleanliness
  • Greet guests in a friendly and courteous manner and explain any specials or restaurant promotions for guest awareness
  • Record the details of the order from the guests, repeating the order to the guest to check for accuracy
  • When complete, retrieve order from the kitchen, confirming its accuracy, lift, and deliver it to the guests along with appropriate condiments
  • Replenish beverages as necessary and check with guests for overall satisfaction
  • Market and serve any dessert items, or specialty coffees
  • Assist the server Assistants in clearing and resetting the tables
  • Perform all side work including replenishing condiments and restocking side stands
  • Ant and all other duties as assigned; duties are subject to change as management deems necessary to best serve the needs of Moody Gardens

EDUCATION/ EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Any combination of education, training, or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities
  • Prior hospitality/server experience preferred
  • Must obtain TABC & Food Handlers Certification prior to beginning work

REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • Must be reliable and responsible
  • Must have basic knowledge of food and beverage preparation, service standards, guest relations, and etiquette
  • Knowledge of the appropriate table settings, service ware, and menu items
  • Ability to read, write, and speak in English sufficient to understand menus, special promotions, record orders, and communicate with guests to explain
  • Ability to remember, recite, and promote a variety of menu items
  • Ability to operate beverage equipment
  • Ability to operate a keyboard and learn the POS system

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to transport large trays weighing up to 30 pounds through a crowded room on a continuous basis throughout the shift
  • Ability to move or push goods on a hand card weighing a maximum of 200 pounds
  • Ability to stand, and/or walk continuously throughout shift
  • Ability to perform tasks requiring bending, stooping, and kneeling
