What does a septic service technician do?

A Septic Service Technician is responsible for inspecting, maintaining, repairing, and pumping septic systems used for wastewater treatment in residential and commercial properties. Their duties often include diagnosing system issues, performing routine maintenance, and ensuring that septic tanks and related components are functioning properly and safely. They may also provide advice to property owners on septic system care and identify potential environmental concerns. This role requires knowledge of plumbing, environmental regulations, and safe handling of waste materials.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a septic service technician, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Septic Service Technician, you need knowledge of septic system operation, basic plumbing skills, and often a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with tools like pipe locators, tank pumps, and sometimes commercial driver’s licenses (CDL) or state-specific certifications are typically required. Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and good customer service skills help technicians stand out in the field. These skills ensure safe, efficient service, compliance with regulations, and positive experiences for clients.

What are some common challenges faced by septic service technicians on the job?

Septic Service Technicians often work in physically demanding and occasionally unpredictable environments, which can present challenges such as working in confined spaces, exposure to unpleasant odors, and dealing with adverse weather conditions. Additionally, troubleshooting system malfunctions sometimes requires quick problem-solving and adherence to strict safety protocols. Effective communication with homeowners and property managers is essential, as technicians must explain issues, recommend solutions, and provide maintenance tips. Despite these challenges, the role offers valuable hands-on experience and opportunities for advancement within the wastewater management industry.

What is the difference between Septic Service Technician vs Drain Cleaner?

ARE YOU A GOOD FIT?

Ask yourself: Do I have excellent communication skills, both verbally and by electronic means? Am I efficient and organized? Can I self-initiate tasks and work independently? Do I thrive on providing great customer service? If so, please consider applying for this installation position today!

YOUR LIFE AS AN ENTRY LEVEL LEAD SEPTIC INSTALLER

This position enjoys full-time hours and benefits. The initial 60-day training period will be Friday through Tuesday, 7:00 am - 4:00 pm with a one-hour lunch. After training, the workdays may be adjusted. Earlier or later hours may be necessary to accommodate customer needs and provide the best customer service possible. Rarely (but sometimes), we accept jobs on holidays. Some weekend work is required.

In this installation position, you come to work every day, ready to ensure that the septic tanks of our customers are installed and functioning as they should. As a coordinator, you plan the logistics of a job and make sure that everything is done according to state and parish regulations. Among other tasks, you conduct daily jobs briefings with the technicians and oversee operations at the site. You coordinate with sub-contractors, assess the systems in your charge, and document your findings. Sometimes, you are behind the wheel of an excavator or a pumper truck. Other times, you take a shovel in hand to find a lid or backfill a small area. In other words, you wear a variety of hats as you ensure that the job is done well.

Another important hat is to be the face of our company to our customers. Your friendly customer service lets them know we have their backs. It's true that your job is strenuous at times, but you wouldn't have it any other way. You are a hard worker and proud of it. A little dirt doesn't bother you one bit. Your efforts make a difference to our customers and our community. You know it and are happy to do what you do!

WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU

  • Class E driver's license with good driving record
  • Class D Driver's License
  • Standard computer skills and proficiency in MS Office
  • Willingness to obtain required OSWW Certification (within six months of hiring) and medical certificate (within two months of hiring)

Experience in our industry would be preferred, as would expertise in home-service sales and customer service. If you can meet these requirements and perform this installation job as described above, we would be happy to have you as part of our team!
