    POSITION SUMMARY

    The Senior Writer leads message development and strategic writing for MEDCOM's Comprehensive Strategic Communications program, converting leadership direction and program information into command-level speeches, feature stories, news releases, briefings, and website/social content for Soldiers, Families, MEDCOM leadership, Congress, and partner organizations. The Senior Writer leads updates to the Strategic Communication Plan and the Monthly Status Report and works day-to-day alongside a Photographer/Videographer and Multimedia Designer as a single onsite production team.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Write command-level speeches, feature stories, articles, news releases, briefings, and public information, website, and social content for identified stakeholder categories.
    • Interview subjects on diverse MEDCOM-related topics to develop original, audience-tailored content.
    • Develop tailored outreach campaigns, strategic communication strategies, and tactical execution plans for major initiatives and high-visibility events.
    • Analyze and draft updates to the stakeholder analysis and Strategic Communication Plan, incorporating audience, message, and channel evaluation.
    • Apply AP style and Army Regulation (AR) 360-1 to all written products; support Government review, revision, and approval cycles.
    • Evaluate campaign performance and recommend improvements to stakeholder collaboration and communication effectiveness.
    • Lead preparation of the Monthly Status Report, incorporating operational tracking, metrics, and reporting data from the full team.
    • Coordinate and participate in the kickoff meeting, monthly functional review meetings, and provide meeting minutes as required.

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

    • Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, or a closely related field.
    • Minimum eight (8) years of professional writing/authorship experience, including executive or command-level writing.
    • Demonstrated command of AP style; familiarity with Army public affairs guidance (AR 360-1) strongly preferred.
    • Ability to work full-time onsite at Falls Church, VA under Government-defined core hours.
    • Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust/NACI and Government-issued CAC.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

    • Prior experience writing for a military, DoD, or federal health-focused organization.
    • Experience leading or contributing to a formal Strategic Communication Plan.
    • Experience producing content across multiple platforms (web, social, print, executive speechwriting) within a Government or highly regulated review/approval process.

    SECURITY & TRAINING REQUIREMENTS

    Public Trust (National Agency Check with Inquiries - NACI), active or in adjudication, required at start of work. Position is designated IT-III per AR 25-2. Favorable NACI adjudication and CAC issuance typically require four (4) weeks or longer from submission.

    Mandatory training: Cyber Awareness Challenge, HIPAA, OPSEC, AT Level I, CUI, SHARP, Social Media, Active Shooter, iWATCH, CTIP, TARP, No-FEAR, Suicide Awareness & Prevention, Substance Abuse, Ethics, and Safety training, per Government timelines and annual refresh requirements.

    TRAVEL

    Government-directed travel to Soldier Recovery Units, Army Trials, Warrior Games, and other Army Medicine event locations as required, in accordance with the Joint Travel Regulations. All travel is COR-approved and scheduled in advance.
