Ark is HLW’s strategy studio that specializes in workplace strategy, design guidelines, and change management services. We have been an active entity supporting HLW as an architecture and design firm for over 15 years. Our team includes architects, psychologists, and data analysts. We use design thinking and quantitative analysis to generate strategies for organizations looking to better understand their workplace and workforce. Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced workplace strategist to join our team in New York City. Versatility is key to the success of this role, as this individual will lead our client-facing work in the region. This individual will conceive of and facilitate user engagements, assess occupancy and program data, develop strategic recommendations, generate space budgets, administer, and synthesize workplace surveys. We are also looking for someone experienced in managing and leading a variety of change management programs.

Much of Ark’s work is embedded within the interior design and architectural practice of HLW. However, as an independent studio we also actively pursue standalone projects. In addition to client work, a Senior Workplace Strategist is asked to contribute to a variety of internal efforts and initiatives that advance Ark’s position as an evidence-based practice and help us evolve.


Job Responsibilities

  1. General Knowledge & Understanding
    1. Serve as a member of the global Ark team, contributing to various internal initiatives that advance the team’s business goals and objectives
    2. Establish yourself as a subject matter expert that adds value to our client projects and/or the firm’s broader goals and initiatives; expertise includes workplace strategy and change management
  1. Project Related – All Phases
    1. Manage key project tasks and lead the development of project deliverables
    2. Manage the day-to-day client relationship in delivering engagements such as leadership visioning and workshops, qualitative interviews, workplace surveys or other analytical exercises, development of space program, strategic briefing
    3. Liaison with HLW project designers and architects around strategic recommendations and subsequent phases of project scope
  1. Leadership & Organizational
    1. Assist in Ark’s internal relationships, including engaging with and educating HLW’s studios
    2. Actively contribute to the advancement of Ark initiatives and goals
    3. Mentor colleagues in methods, industry knowledge, and delivery of best practices
  1. Business Development & Marketing
    1. Actively structure approaches to new project opportunities, including assistance in the development of scope, fee, and work management plans
    2. Play a central role in NYC-based client pitch preparation and delivery
    3. Help develop presentation content, marketing collateral, trend reports, and other related materials that support Ark’s marketing and business development efforts
    4. Advance studio thought leadership through published work or independent research; remain active in local industry (i.e. panels, conferences, events, etc.)
    5. Participate in speaking engagements through industry societies and affiliations, as appropriate

Reporting Structure

This position will report to the Director of Ark and sit in the HLW NYC Office.

Role Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in architecture, design, social or behavioral sciences, research methodology, or a related discipline; Advanced degree in a related subject is highly preferred
  • Between 5 and 10 years of professional experience in architecture, design, workplace strategy, research, social sciences, or related disciplines; at least 2-4 years within a workplace strategy practice required
  • Entrepreneurial spirit – ability to operate autonomously and generate pro-active solutions to client concerns and studio objectives
  • Ability to handle competing deadlines and prioritize client needs
  • Excellent communication skills – strong graphic, written, and verbal presentation capabilities are a must
  • Demonstrated proficiency with baseline tools including Adobe CS, MS Excel, Google Collaborative Suite, Miro
  • Proficiency with the following software is a bonus: AutoCAD / Revit, Alchemer, Mentimeter, PowerBI, Adobe Premiere or After Effects
  • Knowledge of current best practices in design industry and related technologies is preferred
  • ** Please note that this position is not a Marketing/Brand Strategist role. Candidates searching for those roles will not be considered.

The expected salary range for this position is $115,000-$135,000. We will consider relevant experience, qualifications, location and other job-related factors in determining compensation.
