Description
SAIC is hiring a VMware System Administrator to be located in San Diego, CA. The successful candidate will provide VMware Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) engineering and Microsoft Windows Server system administration supporting Information Warfare Training Command, San Diego, CA. This position requires the ability to manage the command's Microsoft Windows and VMware virtual infrastructure, as well as participate in the change management process and incident response processes.
The VMware System Administrator will require:
  • Managing VMware vSphere and Horizon server Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) and Microsoft Windows Server infrastructure.
  • Management tasking includes but is not limited to system integration planning, evaluating cybersecurity requirements, implementing security controls, resolving system outages, metrics collection, maintenance support, and the timely entry of communication and tasking into the ticket management tool Service Now.
  • Maintain the network's cybersecurity posture and assist with system accreditation efforts.
  • Automate and standardize configuration of systems following industry best practices.
  • Testing of upgrades and patches to maintain Windows Server 2016 and later.
  • Experience troubleshooting enterprise VMware Horizon VDI performance issues involving storage, networking, Active Directory, authentication, and Windows operating systems.
  • Program in an administrative language, including PowerShell and VMWare CLI, as needed.
  • Resolve difficult interoperability problems to obtain operation across all platforms.
  • Review/advise on acquisition of hardware, software, needed to support the mission.
  • Perform a variety of routine and non-routine tasks associated with Cyber/Information Security (INFOSEC) and Information Assurance (IA) support in accordance with National and Department of Defense (DoD) standards to include the Risk Management Framework (RMF).
  • Conduct systems analysis and development to keep systems current with changing technologies, security needs, and user functional requirements.
  • Interact with the engineering management team and senior customer personnel on matters requiring coordination across organizational lines.
  • Understand networking theory (routing and switching).

Qualifications
Required experience and education:
  • Bachelor's Degree and 2 years of experience; 4 additional years of experience may be substituted in lieu of a degree.

Required skills:
  • Minimum of two years of VDI experience.
  • TCP/IP, IP subnetting, system backups, performance tuning, NAS/SAN configuration, Active Directory, GPOs, advanced scripting, LDAP, DNS, PKI, web servers, databases, Windows server and desktop operating systems, DHCP, DNS, enterprise patch management via COTS applications, server virtualization technologies such as VMware ESXi, vSphere, vCenter, VMware Horizon (Instant Clones, Golden Images, App Volumes preferred).
  • Server/network design topologies, protocols and engineering standards, advanced security control implementation. Information Assurance vulnerability scanning tools such as, ACAS, Nessus, SCAP, STIGs, HBSS or equivalent.

Certifications:
  • Must have an active CompTIA Security+ ce certification.
  • Must be able to obtain VMware VCP certification within six months of hire.

Clearance required:
  • Must have an active Secret security clearance. Must be eligible for upgrade to TS/SCI.

Desired skills:
  • Knowledge and experience implementing VMware and Microsoft best practices.
  • Experience managing enterprise SAN/NAS storage (Alletra/Nimble, NetApp, Dell, Pure Storage, etc.) and VMware datastores.
  • Understanding and implementing Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) Security Technical Implementation Guide (STIG) security configurations
  • Experience with analyzing ACAS/Nessus scans.
  • Utilizing automated security compliance tools such as eMASSter and/or EVAL-STIG.
  • Performing data backup/restoral with VEEAM.

Target salary range: $80,001 - $120,000. The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
