JOB SUMMARY:

The Video Content Producer is a dynamic visual storyteller responsible for creating high-quality video content across AOPA’s digital platforms including social networks such as YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok; AOPA.org; newsletters; and magazine digital editions. From conceptualization to final publication, this role handles the full video production process, including story pitching, shooting, editing, and publishing. The person must be able to work in a fast-paced environment, with the ability to manage multiple projects without compromising creative integrity. The person must be a team player and work collaboratively with other staff members. The Video Content Producer is a passionate aviation enthusiast with the creative and technical knowledge required to deliver compelling content that resonates with AOPA’s audience.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Shooting (30%)

Determines the best video, audio, and lighting techniques to shoot high-quality video content in a deadline-driven environment.

Collaborate with AOPA stakeholders and follow video best practices to create compelling long and short form videos for AOPA’s YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok social platforms as well as AOPA’s digital media properties including AOPA.org, newsletters, and magazine digital editions.

Maintains the proper care of all video, audio, and editing equipment.

Participates in air-to-air photo/video shoots.

Editing (50%)

Determines the best editing, sound, and color correction techniques to publish high-quality video content for the appropriate channels.

Follows creative direction, maintains brand standards, works collaboratively, and responds effectively, and appropriately to creative feedback.

Handles multiple projects simultaneously of varying levels of complexity as well as contributes to team efforts by meeting deadlines.

Post-Production (10%)

Creates attention-grabbing titles, descriptions, links, and hashtags to improve performance of YouTube videos.

Organizes and archives b-roll in AOPA’s digital asset management system.

Collaborates with AOPA newsletter team to coordinate content for various AOPA newsletters.

Pitching (10%)

Brainstorms and pitches relevant story ideas according to AOPA’s organizational priorities and the interests of the audience.

Remains current and understands social media creative trends.

Identifies real-time trending topics, shares inspiration, and initiates efforts to capture and tell the story.

Networks within the aviation community to be informed of aviation news and potential stories.

**Although this job description aims to capture the majority of the position duties, other duties may be assigned based on business and departmental needs.

REQUIRED JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s degree in film, television, communication, journalism, or social media videography (or relevant experience).

1 to 3 years of experience including conceptualizing stories; shooting, editing, and publishing videos to various platforms. (CANDIDATES MUST SUBMIT WORK SAMPLES)

Knowledge of professional video cameras, action cameras, lighting and audio equipment, remote equipment, studio equipment, and drones.

Advanced editing skills in Adobe Premiere Pro and/or DaVinci Resolve

High proficiency creating long and short form videos for YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, and other emerging social platforms; comfortable with video best practices; asset specifications; restrictions and content guidelines.

Knowledge of general aviation industry and community.

Self-motivated and able to work both independently as well as part of a team in fast-paced environment with multiple projects, tight deadlines, and changing priorities.

Excellent communication skills to network and maintain amicable working relationships with co-workers, management, industry representatives, and the public.

PREFERRED JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

Private, sport, or recreational pilot certificate or above.

Experience rigging aircraft with cameras.

Part 107 Remote certificate.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

This position works in an office setting.

Typical working hours are 8:30 am – 5 pm, Monday through Friday, with a one-hour lunch break.

Generally, a climate-controlled environment with occasional exposure to outdoor weather conditions when attending aviation related events and on assignment, including exposure to higher altitudes and confined spaces if in a general aviation aircraft.

This position requires frequent travel, up to 30% of the time, to various general aviation or industry-related events. Travel is by aircraft (general aviation and commercial) and by road or public transit. 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee will regularly be required to:

Sit for extended periods while working at a computer or attending meetings.

Use hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, and other office equipment.

Communicate effectively via email, phone, and in-person, which requires clear speech, hearing, and vision.

Occasionally lift or move items weighing up to 50 pounds, such as video and lighting equipment.

Occasionally stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms during the course of normal office activities.

Occasionally move, travel, or fly in general aviation aircraft.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: 
This position is located at AOPA’s Frederick, MD, office.   

The salary range for this position is: $65,000 - $75,000, depending on education and experience.
