Job description

WelbeHealth's PACE program helps seniors stay in their homes and communities by providing medical care and community-based services. We like to do things a little differently, going the extra mile and making a difference in our participants' lives.

The Medical Translator is accountable for supporting our participants by providing accurate, culturally sensitive translation and interpretation of medical information. This role ensures participants can understand their healthcare options, treatment plans, and services, promoting clear communication between participants and healthcare professionals.

This role is different because the Medical Translator at WelbeHealth:

  • Is an integrated member of an interdisciplinary team (IDT) - rather than only providing interpretation for brief encounters, they help support communication between participants and multiple care team members including providers, nurses, therapists, and social workers
  • Build relationships with participants over time, helping to improve understanding, trust, and overall care coordination

We care about our team members. That's why we offer:

  • Work/life balance - We mean it! 17 days of personal time off (PTO), 12 holidays observed annually, and 6 sick days
  • 401K savings + match
  • Comprehensive compensation package including base pay and bonus
  • And additional benefits!

On the day-to-day, you will:

  • Deliver real-time interpretations during medical appointments, care planning meetings, and consultations
  • Ensure translations are clear, compassionate, and appropriate for our senior participants and family to understand
  • Provide accurate written and verbal translations of medical information, medical documents, educational materials, consent forms, and care instructions
  • Collaborate with healthcare professionals, IDT team members, and others as needed to support participant care

Job requirements include:

  • High school diploma or equivalency
  • Fluent in English and Chinese (Cantonese/Mandarin) or Spanish
  • Certification in medical interpretation/translation from American Translator Association (ATA), Certification Commission for Healthcare Interpreters (CCHI), or the National Board of Certification for Medical Interpreters (NBCMI)
  • Must successfully pass the ALTA Interpretation Assessment
  • Must be willing and able to travel up to 75% of the time and within the greater Los Angeles County and surrounding area
  • Must be willing and able to work a varied schedule that may include evenings, nights, weekends, and overtime

We are seeking a Medical Translator that ideally has knowledge of medical terminology, especially related to senior care. If you're ready to join a team that values both its participants and team members, we'd love to hear from you.
