Due to continued growth, TRC Field Services (FSV) is seeking additional Commissioning Engineers of varied experience levels to support our Client Teams.
With a staff of over 200 experienced utility and industrial commissioning engineers and test technicians, TRC delivers comprehensive, cost-effective solutions safely to our Electric Utility Customers while providing the best training programs and mentors in this industry and numerous opportunities for growth with excellent benefits.

Our staff undergoes extensive, in-house training, ensuring efficient project start up and adherence to your individual standards and specifications. We follow well documented procedures and guidelines to ensure safe and thorough planning and testing, so we can manage risk and safeguard ongoing operations.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities
  • Plan, coordinate, perform and document all commissioning activities (pre-commissioning, through construction, testing - commissioning, energization - project close out) of various utility substation protection, control and power circuits in accordance with TRC's and Client's requirements, budgets, schedules
  • Review of wiring diagrams, schematics, engineering documents in advance of projects and outages
  • Perform trouble-shooting and problem analysis associated with protection and control systems and utility substation equipment, including but not limited to: Application Errors and Omissions, Drawing Errors and Omissions, Wiring Errors and Omissions, Settings Errors and Omissions, Equipment Malfunctions, Questionable Apparatus Test Results, Battery Ground Faults
  • Participate in project meetings including but not limited to: kickoff meetings, planning meetings, progress meetings, lessons learned meetings.
  • Prepare detailed daily, weekly, and project completion reports and documentation that includes project progress, issues or problems, recommendations, test results and analyses
  • Assist in developing project specific testing and commissioning plans, energization plans, or any other assigned project specific documentation
  • Identify risks and associated mitigation techniques on utility systems and equipment. Develop a Site Risk Assessment to document all high risk construction and commissioning activities and to formalize the processes of circuit isolation and restoration in a manner that ensures no unintended operations of station equipment and protection systems and personnel safety.+
  • Make certain all applicable tests and/or commissioning activities are performed on every piece of equipment or system in accordance with planning and project documents. Make certain all test results are acceptable and permanently recorded, filed and distributed properly.
  • Develop detailed test reports of various types of electrical equipment. Review and approve detailed test reports of various types of electrical equipment.

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering (Electrical or Power Systems preferred) from an accredited school or University and related experience with testing and commissioning services
  • Electric Utility experience is preferred but will train T-C Engineers with experience in commissioning complex commercial - industrial equipment including protective relays or other Power Systems Field Engineers with relay knowledge.
  • Demonstrated ability to both read and understand construction and manufacturer-s drawings and specifications as well as schematic diagrams
  • Strong knowledge of (or the ability to learn) electrical protection systems, including relay communication; Basic understanding of (or the ability to learn) AC and DC schematics, wiring and drawings, one line and three line interconnection diagrams
  • Prior professional experience in (or the ability to learn quickly) medium and high voltage substation and power plant equipment. Perform basic apparatus testing and interpret test results with supervision.
  • Solid testing and commissioning knowledge of (or the ability to learn quickly) substation utility protection and control circuits. Perform commissioning activities and interpret results with supervision. Basic knowledge of and ability to learn commissioning methods to accurately conduct and document commissioning activities.
  • Test experience using Doble Protection Suite and/ or ProTest, SEL AcSELerator, Enoserv RTS are highly preferred.
  • Current US work eligibility is required together with a Valid USA driver's license issued by state of residence and in good standing is required
  • Must be available for out-of-town travel of up to several weeks at a time
  • Must be available work flexible hours, weekends, overtime holidays and night work
  • Must have excellent verbal and written skills and be able to communicate and negotiate effectively with clients and Team
