What is a senior technical support?

Senior Technical Support specialists are experienced professionals who provide advanced assistance and troubleshooting for technical issues related to products, services, or systems. They handle complex problems that frontline support staff cannot resolve and often serve as a bridge between customers and engineering teams. Their responsibilities may include mentoring junior staff, creating documentation, and ensuring customer satisfaction through effective problem resolution.

How does a senior technical support professional typically interact with other departments to resolve complex customer issues?

Senior Technical Support professionals often collaborate closely with engineering, product management, and quality assurance teams to address complex technical challenges. When an issue exceeds frontline troubleshooting, they escalate cases, provide detailed diagnostics, and may participate in cross-functional meetings to ensure timely resolution. This collaboration not only facilitates faster solutions for customers but also helps identify recurring problems and drive product improvements. Effective communication and teamwork are essential skills in this role, as it often acts as a bridge between the customer and internal technical teams.

These skills are crucial for minimizing downtime, ensuring customer satisfaction, and maintaining efficient IT operations.

Senior Technical Writer, Insurance or Financial Services
About Us
Kizen is a leading AI platform for the future of work, redefining how people and AI seamlessly move and improve as one. Founded on the principle that technology should make work more meaningful, Kizen creates AI systems (AKA assistants) that learn, adapt, and improve over time, just like the people who use them.
Today, Kizen powers millions of mission-critical experiences for leading organizations in highly regulated industries like insurance, healthcare, and financial services. We're solving operational problems and helping the world's most complex organizations give their teams the tools they need to do more, grow faster and live better.
And this is just the beginning! Kizen is where enterprises get AI that works on day one and is flexible enough to shape it to their own organizations. Our AI-first platform is easy to adopt, scale, and trust making it a destination for developers to build new applications and business teams to customize AI assistants, all in one place.
Join us in transforming how industries work, one person, one workflow, one AI assistant at a time!
About the Role
Kizen is seeking an experienced Senior Technical Writer with a strong background in InsurTech, financial, or insurance operations to create high-quality developer and user-facing documentation for our insurance product suite, including Commissions Copilot, Contracting, and AgentCRM. This is a hands-on individual contributor role focused on execution.
You will work directly with Product Owners, Engineers, and Solution Architects to translate complex technical concepts into clear, usable documentation that improves the customer experience.
This role is ideal for a writer who thrives in highly technical environments, understands the insurance industry, solutioning and developer workflows, and takes pride in producing precise, structured documentation.
Key Responsibilities
  • Apply working knowledge of insurance distribution workflows (producer contracting, commissions, hierarchy structures, carrier credentialing) to produce documentation that is accurate, contextually relevant, and useful to insurance-industry end users and developers.
  • Collaborate with the Insurance Product Owner and Solutions team to document vertical-specific features, data models, and integration patterns unique to the insurance space.
  • Write, edit, and maintain developer-facing documentation including:
    • API documentation
    • Integration guides
    • Plugin documentation
    • Developer tutorials & walkthroughs
    • Technical workflows & concepts
    • Release notes
  • Read, interpret, and validate OpenAPI specifications (.yaml / .json).
  • Partner with engineering teams to document new software features, API endpoints, data models, and error handling.
  • Own documentation quality, clarity, accuracy, and usability.
  • Contribute to documentation architecture, organization, and navigation to support a strong developer experience.
  • Operate within a Docs-as-Code environment using Git-based workflows.
  • Interview subject matter experts and independently gather technical details.
  • Manage documentation projects from intake through publication.
  • Continuously improve documentation based on product changes and developer needs.
Requirements
Preferred Insurance Background. You should have an understanding of the insurance industry, including familiarity with concepts such as contracting, commissions management, FMOs/IMOs, carrier relationships, or insurance distribution workflows.
Technical Acumen. You need to have strong technical abilities to be able to understand the complexity of our application and solution framework. You should be able to independently create solutions yourself using common integration iPaaS products and API testing tools.
Collaboration. You should have excellent collaboration skills, as the whole team works together to deliver functionality. You should strive to encourage and empower your team members as we aim to maintain a healthy work environment where we can achieve success, together. You should be eager to mentor newer members of the team as we grow.
Communication. You must offer support and transparency to your team, so you need to be able to provide clear status and expectations. You must effectively communicate progress and dependencies to a variety of stakeholders, and consistently update when things go off track.
Required Qualifications
  • At least 5 years of technical writing experience focused on software or technical platforms.
  • Bachelor's degree in Communication, English, Journalism, or Computer Science
  • Proven experience documenting InsurTech or insurance-adjacent SaaS products in a regulated industry
  • Experience writing API and developer documentation for SaaS, platform, or enterprise software products.
