Senior Systems Integrator information

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a senior systems integrator?

To thrive as a Senior Systems Integrator, you need deep expertise in systems architecture, integration strategies, and troubleshooting, typically supported by a degree in computer science or engineering and several years of relevant experience. Familiarity with integration middleware (like MuleSoft or IBM Integration Bus), scripting languages, APIs, and certifications such as CompTIA or Cisco are highly valued. Strong analytical thinking, project management, and communication skills help you effectively collaborate across teams and manage complex integration projects. These competencies ensure seamless system interoperability, minimize downtime, and support organizational objectives through efficient technical solutions.

What are some common challenges faced by senior systems integrators during large-scale integration projects?

Senior Systems Integrators often encounter challenges such as coordinating between multiple teams, managing conflicting technical requirements, and ensuring seamless communication among diverse systems. They must also navigate tight deadlines and adapt to evolving project scopes while maintaining high standards for security and compliance. Overcoming these challenges requires strong project management skills, technical expertise, and the ability to collaborate effectively with stakeholders across IT, engineering, and business units.

What is the difference between Senior Systems Integrator vs Systems Engineer?

Senior Systems Integrator (EMV) – Location: U.S. (Field/Remote)

The role is highly dynamic and technically challenging, involving pre‑ and post‑sales technical, implementation, and business activities. The Senior Systems Integrator is accountable for the successful integration and validation of Entrust solutions within customer environments while ensuring all relevant security, performance, and compliance standards are met.

Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with system architects to support solution design and infrastructure planning.
  • Lead or participate in complex solution configuration tasks independently or with multi‑integrator teams.
  • Conduct pre‑installation validation and manage issue discovery during lab testing.
  • Perform remote or on‑site installation, integration, configuration, and validation of Entrust solutions and supporting systems.
  • Troubleshoot advanced issues across servers, networks, TCP/IP, RS‑232, Windows/Linux OS, databases, hardware, availability, and scalability.
  • Provide technical escalation support, acting as liaison between customers and internal support teams.
  • Assist in resolving production PKI and other deployment issues.
  • Apply scripting and integration capabilities (PowerShell, Python, JavaScript, SQL) for customization and automation.
  • Engage directly with customers to understand concerns, clarify requirements, and resolve disputes or technical challenges professionally and empathetically.
  • Communicate clearly and confidently with senior executives and non‑technical stakeholders, simplifying complex concepts into understandable language.
  • Document deployment details, troubleshooting steps, and technical insights for support handoff and continuous improvement.
  • Provide training and knowledge‑transfer sessions to customers and internal teams.
  • Support coordination across teams, customer groups, and stakeholders, especially during multi‑integrator projects with competing priorities.
  • Work cross‑functionally with engineering, support, project management, and sales to resolve challenges and maintain project momentum.
  • Negotiate and influence outcomes constructively, presenting ideas clearly and building consensus.
  • Apply creative, analytical, and “outside‑the‑box” thinking to improve processes and enhance customer experience.
  • Assist in project coordination—task planning, tracking, documentation, and risk identification—to support technical projects.
Basic Qualifications
  • Deep expertise in EMV payment systems integration and solution engineering, including end‑to‑end implementation, validation, and optimization within complex customer environments.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, MIS, Engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience as a Senior Systems, Software, or Support Engineer.
  • Experience with physical and digital credential management/issuance.
  • Familiarity with PKI, Key Management, and HSMs (Entrust, SafeNet, Thales).
  • Strong experience with infrastructure technologies including Active Directory, DNS, IIS, networking, and Windows/Linux servers.
  • Competence in scripting/programming (PowerShell, Python, JavaScript, SQL).
  • Experience with Git, Bitbucket, JFrog, Microsoft Teams, SharePoint, Jira, Confluence, and related tools.
  • Experience with AI‑based productivity tools such as Microsoft Copilot.
  • Experience working in demanding customer‑facing environments such as finance or government.
  • Ability to travel up to 60% if required (typical ~25%).
  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure) and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes, Podman).
  • Strong communication, customer engagement, problem‑solving, and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Entrust product experience with CA, Identity Enterprise, IDaaS, Secura, DPP, Adaptive Issuance.
  • Experience with SCOM, SCCM, Intune, or other automated deployment/operations platforms.
  • Knowledge of Linux, XML/HTML, Eclipse, Tomcat, Java, C#, ASP.NET or .NET technologies.
  • Security+ certification or foundational understanding of cybersecurity and DevOps.
  • Experience with database analysis or programming (T‑SQL, PL/SQL).
  • Experience mentoring peers, coordinating team activities, or contributing to multi‑stakeholder initiatives.
  • Experience mediating customer issues or leading resolution conversations.
