You'd be joining an experienced group where your work as a Senior Financial Accountant will be visible, your skills and expertise valued, and your contributions impactful to the continued success of the organization.

Your Impact

Our client is seeking an experienced Senior Financial Accountant to join their finance team and play a key role in financial reporting, month-end close, and compliance activities specfic to the energy and power production business. The ideal candidates brings strong technical accounting expertise, familiarity with energy-sector-related accounting standards for private enterprises (ASPE), team collaboration, and the ability to thrive in a dynamic, capital-intensive environment.

Your Responsibilities
  • Lead month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes, including journal entries, accruals, intercompany balance and account reconciliations.
  • Prepare financial statements and supporting working papers.
  • Support accounting for joint ventures, working interests, and royalty calculations.
  • Manage fixed asset accounting, including capital expenditure tracking and decommissioning obligations, and ARO accounting.
  • Prepare indirect tax filings and support corporate tax provisions and CRA inquiries.
  • Coordinate with external accountants and auditors on year-end engagements.
  • Support lender reporting, covenant compliance, and reporting packagers for shareholders or the board.
  • Strengthen internal controls and contribute to ongoing improvements in accounting policies and processes.
  • Work closely with operational and accounting teams to ensure accurate cost allocations and revenue recognition.
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, and variance analysis.
What You Bring
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or a related field
  • CPA designation
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 2 years in the Canadian energy sector, including direct experience in the power industry (generation, transmission, distribution, or independent power production)
  • Demonstrated ability to independently manage the full financial reporting and accounting cycle in a professional, growth-focused environment, from transaction processing through to financial statement preparation
  • Strong working knowledge of ASPE as applied to energy companies
  • Experience with month-end close, financial reporting, and account reconciliations
  • Proficiency with Qbyte, Execute AFE, and advanced Microsoft Excel skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
