Structural Engineer (PE)

Remote, with onsite work (Massachusetts proximity beneficial for project travel)

$115,000 to $160,000/year + full benefits

Remote/Hybrid (site visits)

~25% Travel required

The Role

We’re seeking a practical, field-savvy structural engineer who thrives on balancing design analysis with hands-on field work. You’ll support New England-based and national water/wastewater infrastructure projects, ensuring structural integrity through inspection, design, and project management.


What You’ll Do

  • Inspect reinforced concrete, structural steel, and masonry systems
  • Perform field testing (with training/support)
  • Execute structural analysis and rehabilitation design work
  • Lead multiple, medium-sized projects concurrently, while appropriately managing scheduling and client expectations
  • Conduct construction inspections and document findings
  • Write technical reports and manage client communication
  • Develop and maintain relationships with clients
  • Travel ~25% for non-local, short-term assignments
  • Local travel to inspection/job sites (~2 hours)


What You Bring

  • PE Certification (required)
  • B.S. in Structural Engineering + 5 years’ minimum practical post-degree experience
  • Proficiency with concrete/steel design. AutoCAD, MS365
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Understanding of how corrosion affects equipment
  • Desire to grow in technical knowledge, including an openness to diversifying skillset 
  • Ability to work independently and efficiently
  • Ability to travel ~25% of the time
  • Ability to meet ~85% billable hours target
  • Able to perform field tasks
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to lift and carry 50+ pounds, climb ladders/scaffolding, work at heights, work in confined spaces, use power tools to collect field samples, etc. (with reasonable accommodations).
  • Drug & Alcohol Testing Requirements: This position is subject to the US Department of Transportation (DOT) random drug and alcohol testing program. As a condition of employment, candidates must:
    • Pass a pre-employment drug screening in compliance with DOT regulations.
    • Be willing to participate in ongoing, randomized drug and alcohol testing as required by DOT standards.
    • Remain in compliance with CPI’s Drug-Free Workplace policy throughout employment.
  • Preferred: Water/Wastewater industry experience, certification in coatings, cathodic protection, or welding, familiarity with reinforced concrete rehabilitation and NDT methods; PE in MA
