CRB is a leading provider of sustainable Engineering, Architecture, Construction and Consulting solutions to the global life sciences and food and beverage industries. Our employees provide best-in-class solutions that drive success and positive change for our clients, our people and our communities. CRB is a privately held company with a rich history of serving clients throughout the world, consistently striving for the highest standard of technical knowledge, creativity and execution.

Job Description

We are seeking a Lead Structural Engineer for CRB’s Northeast region. This role is intended for a structural engineering leader who wants to help build the next phase of CRB’s structural practice in one of our most important growth regions. The position combines high-impact project leadership with regional practice building, client and pursuit support, team leadership, and connection to CRB’s national structural engineering organization.

The ideal candidate may already be leading a structural group, office, discipline team, or project portfolio; however, we are also interested in strong project leaders who are ready to take the next step in their career development. This person will be the first senior structural hire dedicated to the Northeast region and will help establish CRB’s local structural presence across the Philadelphia, Boston, and Washington, DC metro areas.

The Northeast Lead will work closely with CRB’s national structural engineering team and will have access to established technical standards, senior technical resources, shared staffing support, lessons learned, and practice-wide leadership.

Key Responsibilities

  • Regional Practice Building:
Help establish, grow, and represent CRB’s Northeast structural engineering presence. Build trusted relationships with internal project teams, clients, and future hires while creating a strong foundation for the practice.

  • Project Leadership:
Lead structural design approach, technical decision-making, interdisciplinary coordination, constructability input, and QA/QC for significant regional projects in the life sciences and food and beverage markets. Establish clear expectations for structural scope, deliverables, assumptions, and design quality from pursuit through closeout. Serve as Engineer of Record where appropriate.

  • Team Leadership:
Help define structural staffing plans, participate in recruiting and interviews, onboard new hires, and develop the team through workload alignment, mentoring, and performance feedback.

  • Resource Planning and Business Operations:
Oversee regional resource planning, staff forecasting, backlog visibility, and workload balancing. Monitor structural project performance, including scope alignment, budget status, schedule risk, earned progress, change management, and profitability. Partner with project managers, structural leadership, and regional leadership to identify risks early and develop practical mitigation plans.

  • Client, Project, and Partner Engagement:
Develop strong working relationships with clients, project teams, construction partners, and structural subconsultants. Partner with client leaders, project managers, and regional leadership to identify new opportunities and position CRB’s structural capabilities in the Northeast market.

  • Proposal and Seller-Doer Support:
Support pursuits by developing structural scopes, budgets, assumptions, and staffing approaches. Help CRB win and execute work by pairing sound technical judgment with clear communication, practical execution planning, and strong client service.

  • Technical and Professional Development:
Support discipline standards, templates, calculation tools, lessons learned, and professional development activities. Help advance consistent structural delivery across CRB’s regional and national teams.

Qualifications

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering from an ABET-accredited program

  • Minimum of 10 years of structural engineering experience, preferably in a consulting engineering or AEC design environment

  • PE license required; SE license preferred where applicable

  • Experience leading structural scope, budget, schedule, technical coordination, and quality on complex, multidisciplinary projects

  • Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities across project delivery, client service, staffing, and team development

  • Strong technical judgment across common structural systems, materials, building codes, and industry standards

  • Experience mentoring engineers, coordinating technical work, and influencing project teams without relying solely on formal authority

  • Ability to support recruiting, staff development, workload planning, and future team growth

  • Effective communicator with the ability to engage clients, project managers, discipline leaders, and executive stakeholders

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience leading a structural group, office, discipline team, or major project portfolio

  • Experience in life sciences, food and beverage, industrial, manufacturing, or other complex technical facility markets
