In the ever-evolving realm of traffic engineering, from V2I to P2P to ATSPM, transformative changes are taking place. We currently have an exciting opportunity available in our Norwood, MA office for an experienced Senior Traffic Engineer with a forward-thinking mindset, particularly skilled in signal and signal system design. The Senior Traffic Engineer will play a key role in performing and overseeing technical designs, development of projects from conceptual to final design, oversee the preparation of contract plans and documents, mentor staff, manage traffic projects and perform business development, project pursuits, and client management. The key focus of this position will be on in-depth research, innovative design, and practical application of the latest traffic technologies. This includes expertise in adaptive signal systems, Peer to Peer (P2P) signal operation, Automated Traffic Signal Performance Measures (ATSPM), and the deployment of Vehicle to Infrastructure (V2I) solutions. Responsibilities:

  • Perform, manage, and oversee design on traffic and transportation projects
  • Perform detailed traffic analysis, traffic signal design, traffic modeling and simulation, intersection geometrics, complete streets, and temporary traffic controls
  • Manage traffic related projects
  • Technical design lead on concurrent projects
  • Review and prepare traffic related contract documents
  • Provide responsive client service through strong and expeditious communication
  • Mentor junior staff to enhance their knowledge and advance their career development
  • Attend and present at client and public meetings
  • Perform business development and manage project pursuits
  • Collaborate across internal disciplines and office locations

Preferred location is BETA's Worcester, MA office. Candidates should have flexibility to work from our other office locations. BETA also offers a hybrid work schedule, allowing employees to request working remotely up to 2 days per week.

Requirements

Required Experience/Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering
  • 10+ years of related engineering experience in traffic and transportation projects
  • Professional Engineer (PE) License
  • Demonstrated strong background in traffic and transportation engineering
  • Proficiency in Synchro/SimTraffic
  • Experience working with AutoCAD Civil3D and Microstation OpenRoads
  • Knowledge of MUTCD, AASHTO and RIDOT/MASSDOT/CTDOT/NHDOT design policy guidelines and requirements
  • Proficiency with traffic analysis and modeling
  • Proficiency with traffic signal design
  • Must be able to collect field data and measurements including but not limited to roadway, sidewalk, and utility assets; and perform asset inspections
  • Must be able to lift/move objects weighing up to 40 pounds
  • Must be able to perform field work in both hot and cold weather (rain and/or snow)
  • Must be able to stand or sit for long periods of time
  • Must have a valid driver's license and reliable transportation

Preferred Experience/Skills:

  • Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE)
  • IMSA Traffic Inspection Certification
  • Vissim experience
