Job Description:
Detail-oriented, reliable, and technically strong Mechanical Engineer with extensive experience in API storage tanks to lead field and engineering evaluations of in-service tanks and associated fixed equipment. This role focuses on tank inspection reviews, fitness-for-service evaluations, repair and replacement scoping, and capital planning support for process industry facilities. The engineer will analyze inspection data, perform calculations, and develop repair or replacement strategies to maintain safety, reliability, and regulatory compliance.
Job Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Lead field evaluations of in-service API 650/653/620 storage tanks, including review of mechanical inspection data, settlement data, and corrosion assessments.
  • Technically review in-house and third-party tank inspection reports and define clear, written scopes of work for tank repair, alteration, or reconstruction.
  • Perform and review remaining life calculations based on inspection reports
  • Evaluate settlement and determine required mitigations.
  • Review and technically assess shell UT data to establish appropriate maintenance strategies.
  • Review and comment on tank fabrication drawings, repair drawings, and mechanical design calculations from contractors.
  • Assess the integrity and remaining life based on corroded thicknesses.
  • Support capital projects in defining scopes for repairs and full tank replacements, including early-phase capital planning and RFQ documents.
  • Interface directly with fixed equipment engineers, inspectors, maintenance teams, contractors, and industry subject-matter experts.
  • Provide technical support during field execution, including outage and turnaround activities.
  • Review and support API 2000 venting calculations for normal and emergency venting.
  • Support tank fire protection evaluations.
  • Working knowledge of welding procedures.
  • Prepare and deliver weekly written reports summarizing tank evaluations, progress, and engineering recommendations.
  • Participate in constructability reviews, proposal development, cost estimating support, and contractor coordination.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Education:

Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering
  • Experience:

Min Yr = 10+ years of experience with API storage tanks in refineries, terminals, or petrochemical environments
  • Licensure:

P.E. Preferred*
  • Technical Skills:

Knowledge of API 650/620/653 required
  • Other Skills:

Strong organizational, written, and verbal communication skills
Individual field assignments typically have their own unique requirements. Prior to deployment on any field assignment, you must be able to meet all client-specific site requirements. Should you be unable or unwilling to meet assignment-specific requirements, your continued employment would then be subject to the availability of other assignments whose requirements can be met. These unique requirements may include:
  • You must possess physical mobility (on the ground and at heights).
  • You may be required to pick up, lift, carry, and move up to 50 lbs.
  • You may be required to work at heights, climb ladders and stairways, and may occasionally work off platforms/scaffolding/ladders using the appropriate and required fall protection.
  • You must be able to work in all weather conditions (including heat, rain, cold, and wind) while wearing the appropriate PPE. This may include, but not be limited to, a hard hat, safety glasses/goggles, earplugs, masks/respirators, hi-vis safety vests, leather gloves, and leather, steel-toed work boots.
  • You may be required to position yourself to work in confined spaces
  • You may be required to adhere to a client's random drug testing program prior to entering their site.
  • You may be required to meet a client's facial hair safety policy prior to entering their site.
