Senior Stack Tester information

What is a senior stack tester?

Senior Stack Testers are experienced professionals responsible for conducting tests and inspections on emission sources, such as industrial stacks, to ensure compliance with environmental regulations. They use specialized equipment to collect and analyze samples of gases, particulates, and other pollutants released into the atmosphere. Senior Stack Testers typically lead testing teams, oversee safety protocols, interpret test results, and generate detailed reports for regulatory agencies. This role requires strong technical knowledge, attention to detail, and familiarity with environmental standards like the EPA’s Method 5.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a senior stack tester?

To thrive as a Senior Stack Tester, you need deep knowledge of software testing methodologies, quality assurance processes, and solid experience with full-stack application architectures. Familiarity with test automation tools (like Selenium or JUnit), CI/CD systems, and scripting languages is typically required, along with relevant certifications such as ISTQB. Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and effective communication help you collaborate across development teams and catch subtle defects. These competencies ensure robust, scalable, and reliable software releases in complex enterprise environments.

What are some common challenges faced by senior stack testers when working with complex, multi-layered applications?

Senior Stack Testers often encounter challenges such as ensuring end-to-end test coverage across both front-end and back-end systems, managing rapidly evolving tech stacks, and troubleshooting elusive integration issues. Coordinating with development, DevOps, and product teams to address dependencies and maintain test environments can also be demanding. Staying up to date with the latest testing tools and frameworks is essential for maintaining efficiency and accuracy in such a dynamic role.

What is the difference between Senior Stack Tester vs Stack Tester?

AspectSenior Stack TesterStack Tester
CertificationsISTQB, ISTQB Advanced, or equivalentEntry-level certifications or none
Experience5+ years in testing, leadership roles1-3 years, focused on basic testing
Work EnvironmentLarge teams, complex projects, leadership responsibilitiesSmaller teams, focused on executing test cases
ResponsibilitiesDesigning test strategies, mentoring, complex issue resolutionExecuting test cases, reporting bugs

The main difference between a Senior Stack Tester and a Stack Tester lies in experience, certifications, and responsibilities. Senior Stack Testers typically have more advanced skills, leadership duties, and work on complex projects, whereas Stack Testers focus on executing tests and reporting issues. Both roles are essential in the testing lifecycle, but the senior position requires more expertise and oversight.

Job description

Description

The Senior Full Stack Software Engineer is the most senior individual contributor responsible for architecting, designing, and building web, mobile, and internal applications at Campbell Companies. This role owns technical direction across the application portfolio, sets and enforces engineering standards, drives step-change productivity gains through the effective use of AI, mentors engineers at all levels, and leads legacy system modernization initiatives from business case through delivery. The Senior Full Stack Software Engineer works closely with the Manager, Engineering & AI Solutions and the AI & Automation Engineer to deliver high-quality, scalable software solutions.

Duties and Responsibilities

Application Development & Architecture:

  •  Lead architecture and development of web, mobile, and internal applications; own coding standards, tech stack decisions, and definition of done.
  •  Design and govern the API landscape: REST service design, authentication standards, versioning, and documentation.
  •  Set the multi-year technical roadmap for the application portfolio; lead build-versus-buy evaluations and present recommendations to Digital & IT leadership.
  •  Embed security and performance requirements into design: threat modeling, secure coding practices, and load and scalability testing.
  •  Implement and enforce UI/UX standards; ensure consistent, accessible user experiences across all applications.
  •  Partner with AI & Automation Engineer to introduce AI-assisted development practices (GitHub Copilot, AI code review).
  •  Set the standard for AI-leveraged engineering: redesign development workflows around AI tooling, measure the resulting productivity gains, and coach the team toward the same level of output.

Legacy Modernization:

  •  Assess technical debt in legacy systems; define incremental refactoring and migration paths.
  •  Lead legacy system modernization sprints, ensuring backward compatibility and stakeholder communication.
  •  Own the modernization business case: sequencing, effort and cost estimates, and risk trade-offs presented to business stakeholders.

Quality & Testing:

  •  Define and track automated testing coverage; champion test-driven development.
  •  Conduct thorough code reviews; provide constructive, growth-oriented feedback to team members.
  •  Own monitoring and observability for application workloads using Azure Monitor and Application Insights.

Mentorship & Team Contribution:

  •  Mentor Software Engineers through pairing sessions, code reviews, and technical knowledge sharing.
  •  Serve as the technical escalation point for complex production issues; lead root-cause analysis and blameless postmortems.
  •  Partner with the Manager, Engineering & AI Solutions on technical interviews, hiring decisions, and engineer development plans.
  •  Participate actively in agile ceremonies: sprint planning, standups, retrospectives, and backlog grooming.
  •  Document code, APIs, and feature behavior to maintain a healthy engineering knowledge base.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education:

  •  Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field; equivalent experience considered. Master's degree in a related field preferred.

Experience:

  •  Minimum of 7 years of full-stack software engineering experience in production environments, including at least 2 years in a senior or technical lead capacity.
  •  Demonstrated experience owning end-to-end architecture for multiple production applications, and mentoring both junior and mid-level engineers.
  •  Demonstrated track record of using AI tools to multiply engineering output - candidates should be able to point to work where AI-assisted development delivered order-of-magnitude (up to 20x) gains in throughput or cycle time, and explain how those gains were measured.

Technical Skills:

  •  Front-end: JavaScript/TypeScript, React, Angular, or Vue; HTML5, CSS3.
  •  Back-end: C#/.NET Core, Node.js, or Python.
  •  Database: SQL Server, Azure SQL, or equivalent; understanding of ORMs and query optimization.
  •  Azure application services: App Service, Azure Functions, Container Apps, API Management.
  •  Source control: Git; CI/CD: Azure DevOps or GitHub Actions.
  •  Experience with REST API design, OAuth/OIDC authentication patterns.
  •  Containerization and infrastructure as code: Docker, plus Bicep or Terraform.
  •  Event-driven and integration patterns: Azure Service Bus, Event Grid, or equivalent messaging platforms.
  •  Application security and performance engineering: threat modeling, profiling, and cost-aware cloud design.

Certifications (Preferred):

  •  Microsoft Certified: Azure Developer Associate (AZ-204).
  •  Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert (AZ-305).
