Job Summary:

The Director of Database Administration the Database Administration team and holds ultimate accountability for the availability, performance, security, and disaster-recovery readiness of the organization's Microsoft SQL Server environment. This role combines hands‑on technical leadership with people management, sets the strategy for high availability and disaster recovery, and represents the database function in cross‑departmental planning.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage and develop the DBA team, including hiring, mentoring, performance management, and career growth planning.
  • Establish clear on‑call rotations, escalation paths, and operational runbooks for production database support.
  • Build a culture of accountability and continuous improvement around database reliability and performance

Database Operations & Performance

  • Own the assessment of database needs across Neumo's product lines, identifying capacity, performance, and architecture gaps before they become problems
  • Monitor and optimize performance across production database instances spanning both cloud/SaaS and on‑premise government deployments
  • Lead root cause analysis and remediation for database incidents, performance degradation, and capacity constraints
  • Oversee backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity practices for systems supporting legally mandated government functions (e.g., court records, jury systems, tax processing)
  • Drive standards for database security, access control, and compliance appropriate to government and regulated data (PII, CJIS, state‑level compliance frameworks, etc.)

Cross-Functional & Strategic Work

  • Partner closely with Product to align database architecture, technical operations, and roadmap decisions with Neumo's broader data strategy
  • Translate product requirements into database and data infrastructure plans that work across diverse deployment models (multi‑tenant SaaS and customer‑hosted on‑prem environments)
  • Collaborate with Engineering leadership on data architecture decisions affecting scalability, migration planning, and platform modernization
  • Act as a key technical stakeholder in conversations with government customers and partners regarding data handling, uptime guarantees, and compliance posture
  • Contribute to Neumo's overall data strategy, including governance, data quality standards, and long-term platform evolution across product lines (DMV, Courts, County, Jury, RMS, Tax, Pension)

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent experience
  • 8+ years of Microsoft SQL Server database administration experience
  • 3+ years of experience directly managing or leading a technical team

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Proven experience designing and operating SQL Server HA/DR solutions (Always On Availability Groups, failover clustering, log shipping)
  • Strong track record of leading disaster recovery planning, testing, and execution
  • Deep understanding of SQL Server performance tuning and enterprise monitoring practices
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to represent technical work to non‑technical stakeholders
  • Experience developing and enforcing database security and patching standards
  • Office setting with a moderate noise level.
  • The employee will work at an individual workstation, using a telephone and computer.

Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to remain seated for extended periods.
  • Regular use of a computer and other office machinery, such as printers and copy machines.
