A Senior Solution Architect in Professional Services, Platform organization plays a pivotal role in driving the success of PowerPlan’s strategic and transformational programs within the energy industry. The position is responsible for project delivery, resource development, business development, and leading strategic projects and innovation initiatives.


Key Performance Objectives

Project Delivery: A Senior Solution Architect is expected to take on implementation projects of increasing complexity and will be responsible for providing strategic guidance, developing roadmaps, and ensuring the successful implementation of software solutions to address our clients' unique challenges.

  • Serve as the Solution Architect on large and complex strategic or transformational programs for clients in the energy and utilities industries.
  • Responsible for the quality assurance/quality control of projects outside regular assignments to ensure alignment with company standards and client expectations.
  • Bring best practice expertise during blueprinting & business process design phases for digital transformation projects.

Resource Development: A Senior Solution Architect is expected to support business critical talent development initiatives to proactively build a highly skilled and adaptable talent pipeline with a comprehensive succession plan to foster growth and mitigate risk within the department.

  • Guide and mentor aspiring Leads and Solution Architects, preparing them for design sessions, coaching on approach, debriefing on results, and connecting key deliverables to strategic value drivers and customer outcomes.
  • Lead expertise pipeline initiative, leveraging the Skills Matrix and resource specific Individual Development Plans to build robust succession plans and mitigate risk by ensuring adequate solution coverage.
  • Lead curated knowledge transfer and training program series to enhance team skills and capabilities.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to customers within the energy and utilities domains. Continuously develop technical knowledge of utility accounting and grow industry expertise through active participation in Industry Conferences.

Business Development: A Senior Solution Architect is expected to expand the company's market presence and revenue through strategic client acquisition, relationship management, and the development of innovative services and offerings.

  • Primary Solution Architect within Professional Services Platform responsible for validating estimates and providing support during the discovery phase of large, complex and/or transformational sales pursuits.
  • Compile quarterly assessment of market and industry updates to share across the team to identify market expansion opportunities and ensure the positioning of PowerPlan Services remains relevant and competitive.
  • Support the creation and standardization of Services Offerings and contribute to the development of a Services Selling Framework.

Strategic Projects and Innovation: A Senior Solution Architect is expected to lead cross-functional teams in identifying, developing, and implementing innovative solutions that drive company growth and maintain a competitive edge in the market.

  • Develop team, process, organization, and collateral to lead a cross-functional professional Transformation task force to pursue strategic opportunities, enhance company positioning, and drive execution excellence.
  • Develop & continuously improve methodology to deliver expertise & advisory on digital transformation initiatives at customers, such as ERP transformation, business process optimization & re-implementation.
  • Develop & continuously improve methodology to deliver expertise & advisory on cloud transformation technology and initiatives.  
  • Support Transformation initiatives, including project delivery improvement and standardization efforts.
  • Incorporate Gen AI (Artificial Intelligence) into strategic projects and assist with methodology improvements to cater to the needs of large, complex programs.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Business, Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • 10+ years’ experience implementing Senior Solution software applications in a client-facing consulting role; preferably in a software consulting or IT type organization.
  • 10+ years’ experience in utilities and energy industries and/or utility and fixed asset accounting.
  • Experience in all phases of the implementation process.
    • Experience in other phases of the customer lifecycle (Sales, R&D, Product, Customer Operations, Customer Success) preferred
  • Ability to establish oneself as a trusted advisor to client, project team and PowerPlan, Inc. colleagues.
  • History of increasing responsibility or upward progression
  • Experience leading project teams or direct reports.
  • Able to track multiple independent work items simultaneously.
  • High level of collaboration skills, especially with co-workers or subject matter experts not in the same location.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Industry experience within oil and gas, mining, transportation, natural resources, utilities, energy markets or telecom.
  • Experience with implementing key Senior Solution applications, including ERP, EAM and CRM
  • Working knowledge of financial accounting processes (Planning, General Ledger, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Fixed Assets, Project Accounting, Close, Budget, Tax, Physical Asset Management, Regulatory) for ERP implementations
  • Management information systems background.
  • Strong technical skills especially with Oracle SQL
  • Strong technical skills Should possess 3+ years expertise in cloud technology, cloud deployments, and SaaS deployments.
  • Preferred experience with PowerBuilder
  • Preferred experience using AI tools to enhance professional services deployments
  • Ability to design, develop, maintain, and implement effective application software on multiple technical platforms using one or more families of languages: Java SE, JavaScript, SQL, web services (REST, XML, etc.).
  • Ability to translate complex technical requirements into common language.
  • Understanding of system and network architecture, system platforms, system access, data models, database design, complex SQL queries, and network protocols.
  • Experience with some of the advanced functions of Excel, including functions, macros, and pivot tables.
  • Process orientation, and ability to analyze and design/build complex processes.
  • Knowledge of test management software (e.g. qTest, HP ALM).
