Job description

At Hudl, we build great teams. We hire the best of the best to ensure you're working with people you can constantly learn from. You're trusted to get your work done your way while testing the limits of what's possible and what's next. We work hard to provide a culture where everyone feels supported, and our employees feel it-their votes helped us become one of Newsweek's Top 100 Global Most Loved Workplaces.
We think of ourselves as the team behind the team, supporting the lifelong impact sports can have: the lessons in teamwork and dedication; the influence of inspiring coaches; and the opportunities to reach new heights. That's why we help teams from all over the world see their game differently. Our products make it easier for coaches and athletes at any level to capture video, analyze data, share highlights and more.
Ready to join us?
Your Role
We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer with a passion for cloud technology and building highly scalable software solutions. This role is pivotal in driving Hudl's mission forward, offering ample opportunities to learn and make a significant impact on our loyal and vocal customer base.
As a Senior Software Engineer at Hudl, you will:
  • Be a key technical leader. At Hudl, we iterate rapidly and deploy changes to our products hundreds of times a day across our Engineering team. In addition to your focus on delivery, you'll support the team by breaking down complex engineering problems, advocating for best practices, and guiding others. You're a generalist who goes where the problem takes them and ramps up in new areas quickly.
  • Maintain efficiency. You'll ensure your team delivers high-impact work efficiently by focusing on outcomes over outputs. You push your team to make data-driven decisions and iterate quickly on feedback.
  • Collaborate across disciplines. You'll work closely with leaders from various disciplines to plan and iteratively deliver enhancements across our product suite. Your ability to integrate diverse perspectives will be key to driving innovation and ensuring our products meet the highest standards.
  • Champion agentic AI. Hudl has adopted agentic engineering practices throughout our software development lifecycle. You'll think agent-first to accelerate software development and coach your team and peers to do the same.

While local candidates in Lincoln, Nebraska are prioritized, we're open to remote applicants who reside in one of the following states: Alabama, Arizona, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Nevada, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Wisconsin, Wyoming.
Must-Haves
  • Strong technical proficiency in scalable, cloud-based software. You have a proven track record of designing, implementing, and maintaining cloud-based systems with full-stack engineering. You're an advocate of CI/CD, you can drive engineering practices across any team, and you pick up new stacks and frameworks quickly.
  • Demonstrate an AI-forward mindset and strong bias for agentic engineering techniques. Hudl has aggressively adopted agentic coding tools and expects our engineering leaders to drive impactful adoption across their team and the full software development lifecycle. You know what and when to effectively apply agentic engineering.
  • Demonstrate technical leadership and product partnership. You're comfortable translating requirements, creating architectural proposals, breaking work into digestible increments, and guiding other Engineers through implementation. You partner with product managers, designers, and quality assurance to build great products and think customer-first.
  • Mentorship mentality and a collaborative, team-first mindset. You know building excellent software is a team effort and you're willing to collaborate with others to get to the best outcome - whether that means providing input in technical discussions, pairing up when a teammate needs a hand, or providing quality feedback in code review. You strongly believe in the multiplier mindset and understand that your growth is tied to the growth of those around you. You enjoy helping fellow Engineers hone their skills in various ways, including reviewing code, pair programming and creating documentation.
Nice-to-Haves
  • Professional background in TypeScript, React, GraphQL, C#, React, MongoDB and AWS. Adjacent languages, frameworks and services used at scale are also relevant experiences.
  • Video encoding and storage experience. If you've used tools like ffmpeg, or video livestreaming protocols like HLS, RTMP, SRT or similar, that's a plus.
  • Mobile development know-how. Hudl is heavily invested in React Native to bring our performance analysis tools and fan experiences to iOS, Android, and a variety of CTV platforms with a single codebase, so experience with React Native or mobile development (native iOS or Android) would be an asset in this role.
  • Transaction processing and financial systems experience. We use Stripe to process transactions, Stripe Connect to power user payout and operate a financial ledger to track transactions. Experience working with end-user financial systems is a plus.
  • Sports industry knowledge. You've worked in sports technology for a high level college or professional American football team, or you've played the sport at those levels.
  • Familiarity with hybrid teams. Our Engineering team is spread across the U.S. with people working both in office and remotely. If you've worked with hybrid or remote teams before, that would help you adapt quickly to Hudl's working environment.
Our Role
  • Champion work-life harmony. We'll give you the flexibility you need in your work life (e.g., flexible vacation time, company-wide holidays and timeout (meeting-free) days, remote work options and more) so you can enjoy your personal life too.
  • Guarantee autonomy. We have an open, honest culture and we trust our people from day one. Your team will support you, but you'll own your work and have the agency to try new ideas.
  • Encourage career growth. We're lifelong learners who encourage professional development. We'll give you tons of resources and opportunities to keep growing.
  • Provide an environment to help you succeed. We've invested in our offices, designing incredible spaces with our employees in mind. But whether you're at the office or working remotely, we'll provide you the tech stack and hardware to do your best work.
  • Support your mental and physical health. We care about our employees' wellbeing. Our Employee Assistance Program, employee resource groups and fitness partner Peerfit have you covered.
  • Cover your medical insurance. We have multiple plans to pick from to ensure you'll have the coverage you (and your dependents) want, including vision, dental, fertility healthcare and family forming benefits.
  • Contribute to your 401(K). Yep, that's free money. We'll match up to 4% of your own contribution.
Compensation
The base salary range for this role is displayed below-starting salaries will typically fall near the middle of this range.
We make compensation decisions based on an individual's experience, skills and education in line with our internal pay equity practices.
This role will also be eligible for a long-term incentive (LTI) award. Any bonuses awarded are based on individual and company performance paid at Hudl's discretion.
Base Salary Range
$112,000-$187,000 USD
Inclusion at Hudl
Hudl is an equal opportunity employer. Through our actions, behaviors and attitude, we'll create an environment where everyone, no matter their differences, feels like they belong.
We offer resources to ensure our employees feel safe bringing their authentic selves to work, including employee resource groups and communities. But we recognize there's ongoing work to be done, which is why we track our efforts and commitments in annual inclusion reports.
We also know imposter syndrome is real and the confidence gap can get in the way of meeting spectacular candidates. Please don't hesitate to apply-we'd love to hear from you.
