We are seeking a Senior Software Lead/Software Architect to provide system-level leadership, architecture, and design for a large-scale ground system. This role focuses on the front end of the software lifecycle, including architecture, requirements definition, system design, and establishing the technical foundation for downstream development teams. The successful candidate will help shape and mature complex systems through technical direction, architectural decision-making, and collaboration across engineering teams. This position is onsite in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Key Responsibilities
• Lead end-to-end software architecture for a complex, mission-critical ground system.
• Define and document system requirements, interfaces, and design artifacts.
• Drive architectural decisions aligned with applicable customer standards.
• Develop and maintain system models using frameworks such as DoDAF, MSOSA, and Cameo.
• Translate customer needs and operational concepts into formal system designs.
• Establish design patterns, architectural guardrails, and technical direction for implementation teams.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship across multidisciplinary engineering teams.

• Experience with structured software development lifecycles such as the V-model.
• Experience working in early-phase program environments where architecture and requirements are being defined.
• Ability to provide technical leadership without a primary focus on hands-on coding.
• Excellent technical communication skills, including the ability to document and explain system designs clearly.
• Experience with systems engineering or software development for space-based or ground-based systems.
• Experience with Software Configuration Management, Software Architecture and Design, and Software Life Cycle Management.
• Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience standing up or supporting Software Integration Labs.
• Experience working across multiple sites or distributed engineering teams.
• Familiarity with transitioning systems from R&D environments into formal program execution.
• Experience working in large aerospace or defense program environments.
