Job description

Job Summary:
The Senior Project Engineer will A) act as an injection molding technical expert helping the product development teams get higher-risk projects done, and B) troubleshoot current projects. For higher-risk new product launches, the project engineer will work closely with project managers to anticipate issues, work to avoid them, and assist with risk reduction efforts. All of this is done while raising the skill level of product development team members and improving our systems and processes. This position ultimately helps all projects - whether involved directly or not - get delivered safely, on time, within scope, and within budget while optimizing OEE. The Project Engineer will act as a technical liaison between all cross-functional teams. This will be achieved while maintaining HellermannTyton's Quality and EHS certifications by supporting all corporate policies, procedures, work instructions, and required documentation.
Essential Functions:
  • Participate in Advanced Molding Group Steering Committee. Review systems and processes with the rest of the SteerCo looking for OFI (opportunities for improvement).
  • Technical expertise: Provide consultation on part design, materials, mold design, tooling specifications, processing, and manufacturing feasibility. Uses skills to anticipate and avoid issues.
  • Cross-functional collaboration: Work with project managers, product development engineers, tooling engineers, process engineers, automation, quality, and others to ensure success.
  • Quoting assistance. Support product management to develop quotes for complex injection molding.
  • Continuous improvement: Identifyinitiatives to improve systems, processes, and workflow efficiency.
  • Troubleshooting: Support manufacturing by troubleshooting product problems as assigned.
  • Support validation, testing, and documentation of new or modified processes and systems.
  • Ensure all project activities comply with safety, quality, and environmental standards.
  • Identify opportunities to improve OEE and reduce the price of non-conformance / cost of poor quality.

Skills:
  • Understands injection molded product development of IATF, ISO, AS9100, APQP, PPAPs, scientific injection molding, injection mold design, and many different polymers, etc.
  • Working knowledge of statistics (Cp, Cpk, standard deviation, SPC).
  • Project management understanding, including budgeting, scheduling, and risk management.
  • Experience with CAD software, Microsoft O365, flow analysis, and project management tools.
  • Familiarity with continuous improvement methods and root cause analysis tools (5Whys, 8D's, A3, etc.)
  • Understanding of equipment design, automation, and process validation.
  • Understands injection mold design, mold materials, mold components, and manufacturing methods.
  • Able to coordinate and interpret plastic flow analyses.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence across organizational levels.

What You'll Bring
Education & Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in Plastics, Mechanical, or Manufacturing Engineering or related discipline.
  • 7+ years of engineering experience in plastic injection molding manufacturing environment.
  • Proven experience managing capital projects and leading cross-functional teams.
