Job Description:

Job Summary

Responsible for leading advanced coding compliance and education activities to ensure accuracy, integrity, and adherence to regulatory standards across the organization. Provides expertise in auditing medical records, analyzing coding practices, and identifying compliance risks. Ensures alignment with CMS, OIG, and payer guidelines by developing corrective action plans and conducting targeted reviews. Develops and delivers education programs to coding staff and providers to improve documentation, accuracy, and regulatory compliance. Coordinates with compliance, revenue cycle, and clinical teams to drive continuous improvement in coding quality and organizational performance.


Essential Functions

Conducts advanced coding audits to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with federal, state, and payer regulations.

Identifies coding compliance risks and develops corrective action plans in collaboration with leadership.

Designs and delivers education programs for coding staff, providers, and clinical teams to improve documentation and coding accuracy.

Reviews audit results, prepares detailed reports, and communicates findings with recommendations for improvement.

Monitors regulatory updates and payer requirements to ensure policies and practices remain current.

Provides subject matter expertise in coding compliance during investigations, appeals, and regulatory reviews.

Collaborates with revenue cycle, compliance, and clinical documentation improvement (CDI) teams to resolve complex coding issues.

Develops and maintains coding compliance policies, procedures, and training materials.

Mentors junior coding compliance staff and supports their professional development.

Performs other duties as assigned.


Education Requirement: Bachelor's degree


Experience Requirement: 5+ years of experience

An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. All experience must be paid and in the same related field. Part-time and PRN experience will be prorated based on hours worked per week. Volunteer work and internships for academic credit are not counted.


Certifications & Licensures: RHIA Certification, CPMA, CCDS, Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) or Certified Professional Coder (CPC) required. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. All experience must be paid and in the same related field.
