Job Description Summary

Performs a variety of mechanical tasks related to performing general maintenance on university buildings. Hours for this 4 day, 10 hour position are Wednesday through Saturday, 7:00 pm to 5:00 am.

Job Description

Essential Duties:

  • Performs repair work; replaces tile; repairs doors and window; unstops sinks and other plumbing fixtures; repairs steam valves; replaces motors and pumps on heating/air conditioning equipment; repairs electric switches and receptacles

  • Reviews work orders and investigates site; determines proper repair procedures; estimates time and materials needed

  • Serves as informational resource to staff

  • Plans and conducts a comprehensive preventive maintenance program

  • Cleans and maintains tools and equipment

  • May assist in setting up of stages, rigging, curtains, and lighting system for special events

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Requires six months of mechanical/trade training beyond high school and two years of repair/maintenance experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Requires driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated two or more years of experience in troubleshooting, diagnostics and repairs in multiple maintenance trade areas.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of carpentry, electricity, and plumbing repair and maintenance

  • Knowledge of mechanical repair

  • Ability to read schematics

Working Conditions:

Continuous standing or walking, frequent climbing, and lifting of materials weighing up to 75 pounds. Somewhat disagreeable working conditions. Some exposure to unpleasant elements which are particularly disagreeable.
