Senior Rf Filter Design Engineer information

What are Senior RF Filter Design Engineers?

Senior RF Filter Design Engineers are experienced professionals who specialize in designing, developing, and optimizing radio frequency (RF) filters used in electronic communication systems. They work with components that block or allow specific frequencies to ensure signal integrity in devices like smartphones, radios, and wireless networks. Their responsibilities include designing filter circuits, simulating performance, troubleshooting issues, and collaborating with cross-functional engineering teams. Senior engineers also mentor junior staff and contribute to research and development of new filtering technologies.

What is the difference between Senior Rf Filter Design Engineer vs RF Filter Design Engineer?

AspectSenior Rf Filter Design EngineerRF Filter Design Engineer
CredentialsBachelor's or Master's in Electrical Engineering, specialized in RF designBachelor's or Master's in Electrical Engineering, RF focus often preferred
Work EnvironmentDesign labs, R&D departments, collaborative teamsDesign labs, manufacturing facilities, project teams
Industry UsageTypically more experienced, involved in complex design and mentorshipEntry to mid-level roles focused on design tasks

The main difference between a Senior Rf Filter Design Engineer and an RF Filter Design Engineer lies in experience and responsibility. The senior role involves advanced design, mentorship, and project leadership, while the RF Filter Design Engineer typically focuses on executing design tasks under supervision. Both roles require similar credentials and work environments, but the senior position demands more expertise and leadership in RF filter development.

What are some typical challenges faced by Senior RF Filter Design Engineers when working on multi-band wireless devices?

Senior RF Filter Design Engineers often face the challenge of designing compact filters that operate efficiently across multiple frequency bands while maintaining low insertion loss and high selectivity. Integrating these filters into increasingly smaller and more complex wireless devices can lead to issues with electromagnetic interference and meeting stringent performance specifications. Collaboration with PCB designers, systems engineers, and manufacturing teams is crucial to balance trade-offs in size, cost, and performance. Staying up-to-date with new materials and fabrication techniques also helps overcome these challenges and ensures optimal filter performance in real-world applications.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Senior RF Filter Design Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Senior RF Filter Design Engineer, you need deep expertise in RF/microwave engineering, filter theory, and a degree in electrical engineering or a related field. Proficiency with simulation tools like HFSS, ADS, or CST, as well as experience with PCB design and measurement equipment, is typically required. Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and effective communication are crucial soft skills in this role. These skills ensure the development of high-performance filters that meet rigorous technical specifications and support seamless collaboration within multidisciplinary teams.

Job description

We are seeking an experienced Senior RF Technician to support the assembly, integration, test, and troubleshooting of advanced software-defined radio (SDR) systems and RF subsystems spanning low frequency through 50 GHz.

Description:

This role requires deep hands-on technical expertise in RF/microwave hardware, proficiency with advanced test methodologies, and the ability to collaborate closely with engineering to resolve complex performance issues and support new product introduction (NPI).

Key Responsibilities:

  • System-level and board-level integration, test, and troubleshooting of SDR platforms and RF subsystems.
  • Perform advanced RF measurements (gain, noise figure, linearity, phase noise, spurious emissions, etc.) across the operating spectrum up to 50 GHz.
  • Operate, program, and maintain complex RF/microwave test equipment including VNAs, spectrum analyzers, phase noise analyzers, power meters, oscilloscopes, and signal generators.
  • Support engineering root-cause analysis and corrective action for product nonconformance, identifying circuit-level and system-level issues.
  • Collaborate with design and systems engineers during prototype builds, verification testing, and design validation, providing real-time feedback on performance issues and manufacturability.
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior technicians on assembly, testing, and troubleshooting practices.
  • Ensure test data integrity, proper documentation, and traceability in compliance with AS9100/ISO9001 quality management standards.
  • Work cross-functionally with engineering, quality, and program management teams to drive continuous improvement in test methodologies, assembly practices, and product performance.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Associate s degree in Electronics Technology, RF/Microwave Engineering, or equivalent military/industry background; Bachelor s in related discipline preferred.
  • 5+ years of hands-on RF test and troubleshooting experience in defense, aerospace, or advanced telecom environments.
  • Strong expertise in diagnosing RF/microwave hardware issues at the board, module, and system level.
  • Proficiency with advanced RF instrumentation (VNA calibration and de-embedding, time-domain gating, noise figure analyzers, etc.).
  • Experience supporting engineering change activities (ECNs/SAIs) and providing feedback for design-for-test and design-for-manufacture improvements.
  • Ability to read and interpret RF schematics, system block diagrams, and test specifications.

Preferred:

  • Direct experience with software-defined radio architectures and RF/digital signal interaction.
  • Hands-on experience with automated test systems and scripting (Python, LabVIEW, MATLAB, or similar).

Work Environment:

  • Laboratory and defense electronics production floor environment.
  • Involves frequent handling of precision RF/microwave components and connectors.
  • Occasional lifting up to 25 lbs. and use of mechanical/hand tools.

Benefits:

  • Startup Environment
  • Competitive Salaries
  • Health Insurance
  • 401K Matching
  • Bonuses for superior performance
