Senior Application Engineer - MMIC Products

Our team supports customers working with a diverse portfolio of MMIC devices-from low-frequency passives to products operating beyond 100 GHz, with continuous innovation across the portfolio. As a Senior Application Engineer, you will serve as a technical leader within the team, driving customer success, mentoring junior engineers, and contributing to application strategy and product adoption.
What You'll Do
In this role, you will serve as a primary technical interface between customers and MACOM, combining deep technical expertise with clear communication and strong ownership.
You will:
  • Lead investigations and resolution of complex customer technical issues, independently driving to closure
  • Provide authoritative technical guidance on RF/microwave applications, measurements, and system-level integration
  • Design, execute, and interpret advanced RF test setups using equipment such as PNA-X, VNAs, spectrum analyzers, probe stations, and power measurement systems
  • Architect and design application-specific circuits, evaluation boards, and reference designs to support customer needs
  • Develop high-quality technical collateral including application notes, data packages, and presentations
  • Analyze characterization and production data to inform datasheets, application guidance, and customer recommendations
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with design, product engineering, reliability, and marketing teams to ensure successful product adoption
  • Represent the Application Engineering team in technical discussions, design reviews, and customer engagements

Technical Leadership & Ownership
A key aspect of this role is leadership-both technical and organizational:
  • Act as a subject matter expert for assigned product lines or application areas
  • Mentor and guide junior engineers in lab techniques, problem-solving, and customer interaction
  • Help define best practices for measurement methodologies, ticket handling, and application workflows
  • Drive improvements in technical support processes, tools, and documentation
  • Support prioritization and management of customer inquiries, ensuring timely and high-quality responses
  • Provide feedback to development teams based on customer interactions and field learnings

Specific Responsibilities
  • Lead complex RF testing and debugging activities across lab environments
  • Design and validate evaluation hardware and application circuits
  • Review and contribute to datasheets and application documentation
  • Manage and contribute to technical ticket tracking with a focus on responsiveness and quality
  • Develop and deliver customer-facing presentations and technical content
  • Support design reviews and internal technical discussions as a senior contributor

Qualifications
Education:
BSEE or BSECE required; MS preferred
Experience:
  • Typically 5+ years of experience in RF/microwave, semiconductor, or related engineering field
  • Strong hands-on experience with RF/microwave test equipment and measurement techniques
  • Demonstrated ability to independently solve complex technical problems

Technical Skills:
  • Solid understanding of RF & microwave theory and practical implementation
  • Experience with characterization, modeling, and application of MMIC products
  • Familiarity with PCB design for high-frequency applications

The Salary Range for this position is $97,000 - $168,000. Actual salary offered to candidate will depend on several factors, including but not limited to, work location, relevant candidates' experience, education, and specific knowledge, skills, and abilities.
