Job Description:

The Sr. Research Scientist will be primarily responsible for driving innovation of dental consumables through the research of new technologies. The role will lead design experiments that scientifically confirm product performance, reliability, and shelf life.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Actively seeks new technologies, and product features as part of innovation activities for the assigned product category and other dental chemical consumables products that could translate into new product offerings.
  • Creates research activities outline (design of experiments) and schedule according to the company's timetable and establishes daily or weekly routines necessary to meet the project timetable.
  • Develops in-depth knowledge and deep understanding (Subject Matter Expert /SME) of the assigned category with a good understanding of at least one adjacent category.
  • Provides input and support in the planning of assigned category strategic roadmap.
  • Leads R&D activities as part of design control/design change projects within assigned product categories with limited guidance from senior members.
  • Maintains proficiency in New Product Development (NPD) tollgate and design change to independently prepare and execute activities (example: test methods, design verification protocol and report, ECR memo, etc.)
  • Leads NPD feasibility work and provides support on sustaining projects at moderate to high complexity within assigned categories.
  • Provide mentoring/coaching to research associates and research chemists.
  • Represent R&D in product risk management activities (documentation of risk identification, mitigation verification, etc.)
  • Carries out experiments using appropriate equipment, techniques, and protocols.
  • Applies good laboratory practices.
  • Leads and/or executes experiments that scientifically confirm product performance, reliability, and shelf life.
  • Identifies deficiencies and modifies/improves existing procedures.
  • Expected to participate with significant contribution in at least a combination of two product launches or life-cycle management (sustaining) projects with medium to high impact/complexity level.
  • Applies scientific theory to reach conclusions based on data analysis.
  • Complies with all company policies and procedures including quality, complaint handling, and safety.
  • Participates in continuous improvement activities through the Envista Business System (EBS) including Kaizens, 5S events, Standard Work workshops, Kanban, and Kamishibai.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as assigned.

Job Requirements:

REQUIRED:

  • Doctoral degree in chemistry, polymer, or related fields with 3 years of industrial laboratory OR
  • Master's degree in chemistry, polymer, or related fields required with 5 years within the medical device or pharmaceutical industry and at least 2 years in the dental industry.
  • Ability to work onsite five days per week.
  • Skilled in conducting standard chemical or physical testing.
  • Experience in applying good laboratory practices.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office including Word and Excel.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Good interpersonal and collaborative skills.
  • Good organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to prioritize.
