The Senior Research Investigator (SRI) will be a high-level leadership role in the laboratory, acting as key overseer of all fundamental activities associated with the conduct of sponsored science in an academic environment, and support multiple research projects in a collaborative setting. The SRI will execute key projects and help lead the scientific management of other personnel in the laboratory. The SRI will determine job complexity, set priorities and supervise the day-to-day experimental techniques related to conducting standardized procedures and experiments.

The Senior Research Investigator (SRI) will be a high-level leadership role in the laboratory, acting as key overseer of all fundamental activities associated with the conduct of sponsored science in an academic environment, and support multiple research projects in a collaborative setting. The SRI will execute key projects and help lead the scientific management of other personnel in the laboratory. The SRI will determine job complexity, set priorities and supervise the day-to-day experimental techniques related to conducting standardized procedures and experiments.
Job Duties
  • Interacts with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with the values of Jefferson.(Do not delete, move or over-write this statement)
  • Develops strategic plan to define multiple project objectives and execute the mission of the project team and experiment timelines.
  • Designs and implements experiments. Carryout complex laboratory experiments or delegate procedures to laboratory staff.
  • Trains and supervises laboratory staff in technical procedures, processes and methods, data observation, documentation and management via electronic lab notebooks. Assures laboratory members are properly trained in the use of research equipment and standard operating procedures (SOP) in the laboratory including Biosafety compliance. Identifies, recommends and implements changes to enhance rigor and reproducibility
  • Monitors progress of research and data. Ensures high-quality results are achieved in a timely and organized manner. Ensures all research is undertaken in accordance with current University, state and federal regulations.
  • Independently prepares oral and written reports. Coherently and effectively communicates research findings in the form of posters, presentations for PI at local and national meetings, abstracts and manuscripts, as well as the basis for grant writing, preparation and submission with PI as appropriate. Generates publication quality figures for grants and manuscripts. Writes and edits experimental and technical sections of grant applications.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Doctorate in Biology, Biomedical Sciences or related field
  • 5 years of lab management experience required.
  • Oversee scientific collaborations, Material Transfer Agreements (MTA) and reagent needs.
  • Initiate and coordinate facility layout changes, installation of capital equipment, major repairs, etc.
  • Keep abreast of up-to-date new developments in procedures, technology and equipment, as they become available. Advise PI of new and novel procedures into the laboratory.
  • Discuss and evaluate project results with PI and contribute to the direction of the project.
  • Retrieves and archives published and unpublished articles and conference proceedings for use by PI including extended literature searches.

Additional Qualifications

    Physical Demands
    Lift and carry 40-50 lbs. Examples: Push/pull patients on bed, stretcher (requires 29 lbs. push force), lateral transfers up to 50 lbs. of the patient's weight. Frequent to continuous standing/walking. Patient transporters can walk 8-10 miles per shift. *Patient care providers may be required to perform activities specific to their role including kneeling, bending, squatting and performing CPR.
