Job description

The State Street Investment Management's (IM) Business & Technology Risk and Resilience (BTRR) team is first line function that partners with business teams to properly manage operational, technology, and regulatory risk, together with business and technology resiliency. Business Risk Partners within BTRR are aligned to both IM business functions, and specific regions to ensure appropriate coverage for our global operating model. They act as operational risk experts to advise business stakeholders on the execution of risk programs and support their ongoing requirement to identify, assess and mitigate operational risk. This role will specifically serve as the Investments Business Partner. Seeking professional with 10+ years of experience in operational risk, compliance or audit with a focus on risk assessment, monitoring, and effective program design and leadership.

As the COO - Investments Business Risk Partner, you will:

  • Maintain deep subject matter knowledge related to business line control activities, operating model, strategy, and key initiatives; efficiently and effectively apply this insight into how content, themes, and priorities are framed and actioned.
  • Establish and maintain productive relationships with key business function leaders; instill confidence by demonstrating credibility and expertise on core programs and services to influence outcomes.
  • Apply operational risk expertise to educate business stakeholders on how to design and implement an effective controls framework, address weaknesses and respond to emerging risks.
  • Review and challenge Incident and Issue content as part of the Reviewer stage of the workflow to ensure proper alignment between root cause, risk materiality / likelihood, and any required corrective or preventative action.
  • Lead the Risk & Controls Self-Assessment execution workshops to determine and rationalize the inherent risk ratings and controls effectiveness ratings for risks applicable to the Business Unit. Guide the business through the re-designed RCSA process alignment, including completion of process mapping.
  • Perform regular trend analysis on incidents and issues to identify common themes in root cause and areas of focus for deep dive risk assessments with recommendations to the business on control enhancements.
  • Assist the business line in addressing findings and potential risk exposures identified by SLOD Operational Risk and Compliance, TLOD Corporate Audit, external audit and regulators.
  • Maintain regular touchpoints with SLOD and TLOD to coordinate risk assessments and validate consistency in our evaluations of each business line's overall risk posture.
  • Participate in new product launches and new processes implementation projects to offer expertise in identifying risk exposures and assist the business line in suitably designing controls to mitigate such risks.
  • Conduct status meetings with business line partners to discuss open incidents and issues, and identify emerging risks requiring attention. Direct inquiries from business partners to BTRR framework partners, where appropriate.

These skills will help you succeed in this role:

  • 10+ years of financial services experience with a large financial services firm or advisory/consulting firm including experience as an internal auditor, public accountant, risk or compliance officer
  • Experience in risk management, regulatory compliance, or control programs
  • Knowledge of common risk management frameworks and methodologies
  • Independent strategic thinker with an understanding of regulatory, operational, and technology risks in financial services, preferably within investment management function(s)
  • Strong organizational awareness with ability to facilitate and resolve conflicts; ability to make informed, risk optimized decisions under time pressure
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills and ability to work on global cross-functional projects
  • Strong ability to lead through influence and collaborate to drive results within the organization
  • Ability to manage and coach teams to produce efficient and high-quality deliverables
  • Experience working with remote offshore and regional teams
  • Willingness to operate flexible working hours to facilitate team meetings with UK, EMEA & APAC-based colleagues.
  • Self-motivated professional with the ability to work within deadlines and meet goals
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to adapt to various situations and audiences
  • Excellent skills in MS Excel, PowerPoint, and process mapping tools
