We are looking for a talented Programmer Developer to join our IT Markets team. As key contributor you will:

You will play a critical role in supporting and maintaining the mission-critical applications that are essential for SPP’s System Operations team in overseeing the bulk electric grid and wholesale power markets within SPP's extensive footprint.

The IT Markets team is responsible for the performance, optimization, and reliability of these applications, which are crucial for the day-to-day operations of the electric grid and power markets. In this role, you will be tasked with optimizing the performance and efficiency of various applications and processes, ensuring that they continue to meet the needs of our operational teams. You will also collaborate with a wide range of subject matter experts from across the IT department to develop and implement technical solutions to any challenges that may arise, ensuring the continued success of the systems we support.

Your specific duties will include providing support for the real-time Market Operating System, ensuring that it operates seamlessly and efficiently. Additionally, you will be an active participant in a 24/7 on-call rotation, which is essential to maintaining the continuous operation of these critical systems. This on-call responsibility will give you direct involvement in troubleshooting and resolving any issues that may arise, ensuring minimal disruption to operations.

As part of this dynamic and highly collaborative team, you will be expected to leverage your programming and development skills to contribute to the overall success of the IT Markets team. By working closely with colleagues across IT, you will help drive innovative solutions, optimize system performance, and contribute to the reliable operation of SPP’s essential systems.

To be successful as the Programmer Developer II or Senior, we're looking for: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or an Information Technology-related field or equivalent job-related experience
  • Senior Level: Six (6) years of applicable Information Technology development and support  experience; or an equivalent combination of education and work experience
  • Level II: Three (3) years of Information Technology Development/Support experience
  • Expert working knowledge of Microsoft Windows, UNIX or Linux operating systems, application development and support, and database management systems
  • Expert in one or more modern programming languages
  • Expert troubleshooting, problem solving, and analytical skills
  • Expert written and oral communication skills
  • Expert working knowledge of SDLC and project life cycle methods and practices
  • Excellent customer service and organizational skills
  • Understanding of and compliance with SPP Policies and Procedures

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Five (5) or more years applicable utility industry experience
  • Comprehensive understanding of SPP’s core business model

Position Type, Location, and Expected Hours of Work: 

  • This is a full-time, hybrid position based in Little Rock, Arkansas. Standard work hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with occasional extended hours as needed.

Travel Requirement:

  • This position requires minimal travel (approximately 10%)
