Job description

Are you a strategic and creative federal tax professional with experience serving real estate owners, operators, and investment managers? Do you bring strong knowledge of Subchapter K, partnership allocation methodologies, and REIT qualification rules? Deloitte's Real Estate Services Tax practice offers the opportunity to advise sophisticated clients, develop creative tax strategies, and apply innovative technology to complex real estate tax challenges.

Work you'll do

As a Senior Tax Consultant, you'll work as part of an engagement team to provide tax compliance and consulting services to investment management clients. You'll use your accounting and tax experience to identify complex issues, perform detailed analyses, and support a variety of entities and their affiliates.

You'll review partnership workpapers, allocation calculations, and tax returns while preparing research and other materials for consulting projects focused on tax planning opportunities. You'll coordinate with client contacts to gather the information needed to complete tax returns and deliver high-quality client service.

You'll also train, mentor, and supervise tax professionals at various experience levels, helping team members strengthen their technical skills and advance their careers. In addition, you'll participate in Deloitte Tax LLP and sector-specific training to continue developing your expertise.

Qualifications 

Required: 

  • Bachelors degree in accounting, finance or other business-related field 
  • 3+ years experience providing tax planning services or preparing client work papers and income tax returns 
  • One of the following active accreditations obtained, or in process, or must be able and willing to obtain:
    • Licensed CPA in state of practice/primary office if eligible to sit for the CPA
    • If not CPA eligible:
      • Licensed attorney
      • Enrolled Agent
      • Certifications:
        • Chartered Financial Advisor (CFA)
        • Certified Financial Planner (CFP)
  • Ability to demonstrate basic understanding of Subchapter K, partnership allocation methodologies, and the tax compliance process for real estate funds 
  • Ability to perform job responsibilities within a hybrid work model that requires US Tax professionals to co-locate in person 2 - 3 days per week
  • Ability to travel up to 25%, on average, based on the work you do and the clients and industries/sectors you serve
  • Limited immigration sponsorship may be available

Preferred

  • Advanced degree such as Masters of Tax, JD, and/or LLM
  • Experience working in a virtual and/or global environment
  • Passion for leveraging technology and exploring new technology solutions

The wage range for this role takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs. The disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled. At Deloitte, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $74,925 to $153,000.

You may also be eligible to participate in a discretionary annual incentive program, subject to the rules governing the program, whereby an award, if any, depends on various factors, including, without limitation, individual and organizational performance.
