Job description


Be a part of a world-class academic health-care system at University of Chicago Medicine as a Mammography Technologist I in the Radiology Department. Here, under the direction of a Radiologist, you will produce breast radiographs to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of disease for both symptomatic and asymptomatic patients. This position requires intimate patient contact, excellent communication skills and the ability to work with initiative and accuracy. Responsibilities include but are not limited to imaging, patient education, data collection and maintaining regulatory compliance This position is a 100% onsite opportunity. You will need to be based in the greater Chicagoland area.
Eligible for up to a $15,000 sign-on bonus
Essential Job Functions:

  • Handles confidential information consistent with Federal HIPAA legislation, and all other applicable federal, state, local, and institutional regulations with regard to confidentiality.
  • Reviews physician's order to assure appropriateness of examination being requested.
  • Selects appropriate exposure factors based upon breast tissue density, patient's age, numerical compression scale, and technical equipment characteristics.
  • Performs a variety of clinical breast procedures with efficiency and high standards of quality; assures that the proper protocol is used for any given examination; evaluates images for diagnostic quality prior to submitting for interpretation.
  • Assist physician in set-up and performance of breast interventional procedures.
  • Actively participates in the quality assurance program by performing specific quality control procedures as directed by the Imaging Center Leader or Imaging Team Leader. Recognizes report and document malfunctions of technical equipment.
  • Reviews images for proper positioning, technique and identification. Responsible for maintaining the integrity of the online picture archive and the radiology information system by consistent and accurate input of data into the system. Follows established workflows
  • Interfaces with customers, patients and their family members, medical staff, and visitors, in a friendly, professional, courteous and accommodating manner; demonstrates the consistent use of the AIDET principles; demonstrates flexibility in accommodating special needs of customers whenever possible.
  • Shares information about new techniques and procedures with colleagues; assists in the training of new staff and student technologists.
  • Maintains physical work environment to be in compliance with regulatory certifying agencies. Adheres to all infection control regulations. Recognize report and document malfunctions of technical equipment.
  • Performs other duties as requested by senior management.

Required Qualifications:
  • High school graduate or equivalency required
  • Certification from an approved AMA program in Radiological Technology
  • Certified by the American Registry of Radiological Technologists (ARRT)
  • Current Advanced Certification Certificate in Mammography by ARRT
  • Licensed by the Illinois Emergency Management Agency (IEMA)
  • Minimum 3 years of experience as a radiographer
  • Must demonstrate excellent communication, customer service and interpersonal skills
  • Must demonstrate good decision making and judgment skills
  • Must be able to function in fast paced environment
  • Maintain required mammography continuing education as mandated by the Mammography Quality Standards Act
  • CPR Certification

The pay range is based on a full-time equivalent (1.0 FTE) and is reflective of current market data, reviewed on an annual basis. Compensation offered at the time of hire will vary based on candidate qualifications and experience and organizational considerations, such as internal equity. Pay ranges for employees subject to Collective Bargaining Agreements are negotiated by the medical center and their respective union.
