With a talented team of professionals and a culture of continuous improvement, we deliver exceptional engineering, environmental consulting, and construction management services, with a focus on innovation and sustainability. Using advanced analytics, technology, and tools, KJ improves designs, reduces risk, and finds better ways to deliver projects from planning through construction. KJ is at the forefront of developing sustainable solutions for clients, including green infrastructure design, strategies to reduce energy use and environmental impacts, award-winning water reuse projects, and efficient construction management practices that ensure quality, safety, and on-time delivery. We are known for our dedication to industry-leading client service and tailored solutions.
Kennedy Jenks is seeking a Senior Water and Wastewater Engineer to join our growing Water and Wastewater Infrastructure team in Washington. This role is ideal for an experienced engineer who can provide technical leadership across a range of water and wastewater infrastructure projects.
As a key technical resource, you'll collaborate with project teams, mentor developing engineers, and help deliver practical, code-compliant solutions for clients and communities.
What You'll Do
As a Senior Water and Wastewater Engineer, you'll provide senior technical leadership across project design, quality review, team coordination, mentorship, and client support.
  • Lead technical design and problem-solving: Serve as a senior technical resource on water and wastewater projects involving process systems, collection and distribution systems, conveyance infrastructure, pump and lift stations, and treatment facilities.
  • Strengthen project quality: Provide QA/QC and technical review of designs, calculations, drawings, and specifications while developing practical, efficient, and code-compliant solutions.
  • Coordinate across teams and stakeholders: Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, clients, and regulatory partners to support constructable, cost-effective, and well-aligned project outcomes.
  • Mentor and develop engineers: Guide junior and mid-level engineers through technical development, professional growth, and project execution.

What Makes This Role Different
  • Meaningful infrastructure impact: You will contribute to projects that help communities maintain reliable, resilient, and essential water and wastewater systems.
  • Trusted technical influence: You will have the opportunity to shape decisions, guide technical direction, and bring senior-level judgment to complex project challenges.
  • Opportunity to develop others: You will help build technical capability within the team by mentoring developing engineers and supporting their growth through hands-on project work.

What You Bring
  • Senior technical judgment: The ability to evaluate complex design challenges, make sound engineering decisions, and recommend practical solutions.
  • Collaborative approach: Comfort working across disciplines, offices, clients, and regulatory partners to keep project work aligned and moving forward.
  • Quality-focused execution: A detail-oriented mindset with the ability to strengthen deliverables, support constructability, and uphold technical standards.
  • Continuous learning mindset: Stays current on industry best practices, emerging technologies, and regulatory changes, and applies that knowledge to improve project solutions.
  • Clear communication: The ability to explain technical information clearly in writing, conversations, presentations, and project discussions.
  • Leadership mindset: A collaborative, solutions-oriented style that supports project success and helps others grow.

Qualifications
  • Education: BS or MS in Civil, Environmental, or a related engineering field.
  • Experience: 10+ years of relevant water/wastewater engineering experience.
  • Mentorship: Demonstrated ability to mentor and guide junior engineers.
  • Technical background: Broad experience across water and wastewater systems, including process systems, pump and lift stations, pipelines, treatment facilities, and regulatory requirements.
  • Certifications or licenses: Professional Engineer (PE) license in Washington or ability to obtain within 6 months.
  • Travel: Willing to travel to project sites, client meetings, and Kennedy Jenks offices.

Kennedy Jenks supports a healthy work-life balance and utilizes a hybrid model of home and office work, with a minimum of two days per week in the office. This approach empowers our people to thrive, collaborate, and do their best work.
Salary range for this position is expected to be between $160,000 and $210,000, and may vary based upon education, experience, qualifications, licensure/certifications, and geographic location.
Benefits summary: Medical, dental, vision, life and disability insurance; a health savings account; a 401(k); bonus programs; tuition reimbursement; employee ownership opportunity; professional registration support; business travel assistance; competitive paid time off and holidays; an employee assistance program; and additional programs that support your wellbeing and professional growth.
