Senior Mainframe EDI Developer

SYSTEMTEC is seeking a Senior Mainframe EDI Developer for an onsite opportunity in Columbia, SC. The candidate will lead the design, development, and implementation of complex application solutions within a mainframe environment, translating business requirements into scalable, high-performing systems. This role involves full lifecycle development, cross-functional collaboration, and ongoing support of enterprise data processing applications.

Required Qualifications of the Senior Mainframe EDI Developer:

  • Applicants must be authorized to work for any employer in the U.S. We are unable to provide sponsorship or work with Third-Party agencies.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, OR equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 6+ years of experience in application development, systems testing, or related IT roles
  • Strong experience with COBOL and core mainframe technologies including CICS, DB2, IMS, MQ, and JCL
  • Hands-on experience with file transfer and integration tools such as Connect:Direct, FTP, or VPN
  • Solid understanding of software development lifecycle (SDLC), system integration, and quality assurance practices
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Experience working in fast-paced, team-oriented environments with competing priorities
  • Familiarity with mainframe utilities and tools such as SYNCSORT, IDCAMS, FILEAID, or scheduling tools

Preferred Skills / Experience of the Senior Mainframe EDI Developer:

  • Experience working with EDI transactions
  • Knowledge of healthcare claims processing systems and data formats
  • Exposure to vendor tools, code generators, or pricing software within mainframe environments
  • Experience creating technical documentation such as test plans, implementation plans, or requirements documentation
  • Prior experience supporting enterprise data exchange or integration platforms

Responsibilities of the Senior Mainframe EDI Developer:

  • Design, develop, test, and implement complex application solutions in a mainframe environment
  • Collaborate with business analysts, stakeholders, and technical teams to gather requirements and deliver aligned solutions
  • Analyze system dependencies and evaluate the impact of changes across integrated applications
  • Create and execute test plans, troubleshoot issues, and ensure quality delivery of code
  • Provide production support, system enhancements, and post-implementation troubleshooting
  • Offer technical guidance and mentorship to junior team members and contribute to solution design
