Job description

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

The Senior Quality Engineer provides engineering support to the Quality Assurance group, will work with Manufacturing to improve quality and reliability of product, and will participate in a variety of Quality Management System activities. These activities can include direct interaction with customers, suppliers, and other Kyocera-AVX facilities. This position requires the use of quality tools (such as 8D reports, SPC, and root cause analysis) and the ability to effectively identify and address equipment, process, and customer needs.

This position will support the lot qualification process and equipment, and will alsoown the process quality for the CMAP product line including control plans, FMEA, SPC and assisting with customer issues.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Understand how the manufacturing processes for ceramic capacitors and EMI filters affect their essential physical and electrical characteristics.
  • Understand applicable MIL and customer requirements and apply that knowledge to implement and improve manufacturing and test methods.
  • Identify equipment, process, and system needs. Assign actions to appropriate line personnel. Oversee progress and push for timely project closure.
  • Participate in problem solving activities to identify root causes and implement effective corrective actions.
  • Work directly with line personnel to develop best practices and drive continuous improvement activities.
  • Assist with manufacturing and test equipment troubleshooting.
  • Serve as liaison with equipment, OEMs and key suppliers.
  • Write operating procedures and assist in developing training documents.
  • Manage various qualification activities, both for internal and customer or regulatory processes.
  • Work as a member of a team while providing effective leadership, direction, and coaching for direct reports, as applicable.
  • Support the plant Quality Management System and compliance to ISO-9001, ISO/TS-16949, MIL-STD- 790, etc.
  • Travel to other KAVX facilities both domestically and internationally, as needed.
  • May handle hazardous materials.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • BS Degree in Engineering is required (Electrical or Ceramics / Materials Eng. preferred).
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in Quality or a related industry.
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Lean Six Sigma and internal auditing experience is preferred, but not required (lead auditor certification is a plus).
  • Familiarity with ISO-9001, MIL-STD-790, and AS9100 is preferred, but not required.
  • Familiarity with quality tools such as 8D reports, SPC, Gage R&R, root cause analysis (Fishbone, 5 Why, Fault Tree), and reliability estimates.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office tools.

·Manufacturing experience or Co-op / Internship in a manufacturing environment is preferred Familiarity with quality tools such as SPC, MSA (Gage R&R), root cause analysis (Fishbone, 5 Why, Fault Tree), 8D reports, and reliability estimates is preferred but not required
