Job description

Job Summary

The Senior Quality Engineer leads collaborative cross-functional teams to proactively implement quality design, manufacturing and administrative processes. They are responsible for developing processes to assess product and process risk, performing root cause analysis and implementing effective long-term corrective actions to prevent recurrence of quality issues. The role develops and uses metrics to identify areas of continuous improvement and trains EFD team members in problem solving methodologies as required.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities
  • Quality Management Systems:

    Understand and operate within a QMS for the total enterprise. Develop, document, and review procedures, work instructions, and forms used by the quality and manufacturing teams.

  • Corrective Action Process:

    Lead team activities for resolution of chronic customer Corrective Action Requests related to product functional issues, manufacturing issues, or business processes. Develop robust preventative actions to ensure customer issues do not reappear.

  • Continual Improvement Initiatives:

    Lead improvement projects for basic design, manufacturing, and administrative processes. Assist with complex process improvement efforts. Use Lean and Six Sigma tools to describe processes and justify process optimization and capital expenditure.

  • Measurement Systems:

    Use advanced measurement tools, support design of new fixtures, revise existing systems, and recommend advanced equipment for new applications. Create documentation and train staff.

  • Process Auditing:

    Serve as Lead Auditor and conduct audits per ISO 9001:2015 or equivalent, manage audit process, and host auditors from external bodies.

  • Quality Standards and Bodies:

    Understand and train in popular QMS standards (e.g., ISO 9000). Interpret requirements and convert them into detailed procedures and work instructions.

  • Other Responsibilities:
    • Assure enterprise operations align with Nordson EFD Quality Management System.
    • Ensure customer quality expectations are reflected in all products and processes.
    • Support internal manufacturing sites with change management, discrepant material, and product qualifications.
    • Perform quality audit activities, inspect critical attributes, and provide expert knowledge with quality tools and methods.
    • Collaborate with all functional elements to develop, monitor, and report key internal and external metrics.
    • Support Supply Chain Management with supplier quality data and requirements.
    • Participate in NPD process: conduct specification and design reviews, develop measurement system plans, reliability plans, control plans, and FMEAs.
    • Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering
  • 7+ years quality assurance related experience
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Experience in an ISO 9000 manufacturing environment or equivalent
  • Demonstrated problem‑solving skills (Root Cause Analysis, 8‑D, PDCA, DMAIC)
  • Basic training in at least three of the following: Probability and Statistics, Industrial Statistics (Cpk, MSA, SPC), QA Tools (PPAP, FMEA, Control Plans), Design of Experiments
  • Read and interpret technical drawings; create technical drawings in Mechanical Design
  • Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
Preferred Requirements
  • Working knowledge of Injection Molding equipment and processes
  • Knowledge of machined part equipment and processes
  • Advanced Lean principles and methods (Value Stream Mapping, RIE, Status Display, 6S, Continuous Flow)
  • Certified Six Sigma Green Belt/Black Belt
  • Experience with Minitab
  • Pneumatics, Data acquisition/Gauging, Electronics and sensors, Chemical formula preparation
Working Conditions and Physical Demands

Mixed environment (office, lab, and manufacturing). The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

Travel Required

Estimated 10% travel.
