A Senior Python Developer is responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining complex software applications using the Python programming language. They lead the technical aspects of projects, mentor junior developers, and ensure code quality through code reviews and best practices. Additionally, they collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather requirements, solve technical challenges, and deploy scalable and efficient solutions. Both roles are essential in tech companies, but the senior role requires more experience and broader skills.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Senior Python Developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Senior Python Developer, you need advanced proficiency in Python programming, experience with software architecture, and a solid understanding of algorithms and data structures, usually backed by a degree in computer science or related fields. Familiarity with frameworks like Django or Flask, version control systems such as Git, and containerization tools like Docker are typically required, alongside knowledge of modern CI/CD pipelines. Strong problem-solving abilities, effective communication, and leadership skills help you collaborate with teams and mentor junior developers. Mastery of these skills ensures the delivery of scalable, maintainable software solutions and the ability to drive technical excellence within development teams.

What are some common challenges faced by Senior Python Developers when leading a development team?

Senior Python Developers often encounter challenges such as balancing hands-on coding with mentoring junior team members and ensuring code quality across the team. They are also responsible for making architectural decisions, which requires staying updated on best practices and emerging Python frameworks. Additionally, coordinating collaboration between cross-functional teams (like DevOps, QA, and front-end developers) can be complex, especially in agile environments where requirements may shift rapidly. Overcoming these challenges helps foster a productive and innovative team culture.

WHY edgefi

At edgefi, our mission is to help small and medium businesses work happily by maximizing the technology they already have, rather than buying more tools. We want businesses to see IT and security not as a cost, but as a smart investment that helps them work better, protect their business, and plan for the future.

We deliver managed IT and cybersecurity services guided by three core values: People-Centric Excellence, Relentless Innovation, and Humility and Grit. That means we exceed expectations, take ownership from start to finish, and we're the first to admit when we don't have all the answers and the first to go find them.

This isn't a ticket-grinding role. You'll work on complex client environments, shape how we deliver service, and have real influence on our technical direction.

THE ROLE

As our Senior Systems Engineer, you'll serve as the escalation point for our technical team and a trusted advisor to our clients. You'll own complex problems across Microsoft 365, Active Directory, networking, and security, and help us raise the bar across the board.

Engineer and deploy new network infrastructure from design through cutover

Lead network upgrade projects, including switching, routing, VLANs, VPNs, and wireless

Work directly with clients to scope and deliver projects from inception to completion

Participate in security reviews, patch management, and hardening initiatives

Identify inefficiencies and drive automation, PowerShell, Python, or whatever gets it done

Mentor junior team members and help build a culture of continuous improvement

WHAT YOU BRING

5+ years in an MSP or comparable client-facing IT environment

Deep hands-on experience with Microsoft 365 and Entra ID administration

Strong Active Directory fundamentals: GPOs, DNS, LDAP, DHCP, and beyond

Solid networking knowledge: TCP/IP, VLANs, VPNs, firewall concepts

Scripting ability in PowerShell (required), Python, or Bash is a plus

Comfortable working with RMM tools, PSA/ITSM platforms, and backup solutions

Clear communicator who can translate technical complexity for any audience

You're local to the Vancouver/Portland metro. This is a full-time, in-person position
