Primary Function:

The Senior Civil Engineer is a senior technical individual contributor within Dashiell's Land Development Group, focused on technical excellence, complex project engineering, and mentorship. This role provides deep subject matter expertise in substation site development and serves as a technical lead on Dashiell's most complex and high-risk projects without direct people management responsibilities. While this position is currently designated as remote, you may be required to report to the South Jordan, Utah office on an occasional basis, as determined by leadership or business requirements, including attendance at meetings or other workrelated activities. This position will report to Dashiell's Vice President of Engineering.

Duties & Responsibilities

Employee may be called upon to perform any or all of the following functions:

  • Serve as technical lead on complex and large-scale substation site design projects, including multi-phase utility-scale developments.
  • Develop and implement technical standards, design criteria, and best practices for the Land Development Group.
  • Provide expert-level technical review of civil engineering deliverables across the group.
  • Resolve technically complex design challenges including difficult geotechnical conditions, constrained sites, and complex drainage systems.
  • Mentor and coach Engineers, Project Engineers, and Design Engineers in technical skills and professional development.
  • Support development of engineering tools, templates, and processes that improve design efficiency.
  • Collaborate with clients and project managers on technical risk mitigation strategies.
  • Contribute to business development through technical expertise in proposals and client presentations.
  • Perform special projects and complete other duties as assigned or requested.

Minimum Qualifications / Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or related engineering discipline required. Master's degree preferred.
  • Minimum 10 years of progressive civil site design experience with deep expertise in substation or heavy industrial site development.
  • Active Professional Engineer (PE) license required; multi-state licensure preferred.
  • Expert-level knowledge of substation civil site design, geotechnical engineering interfaces, and complex permitting.
  • Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D, drainage modeling, and engineering analysis tools.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead technical design efforts on large, complex projects.
  • Strong mentoring and technical coaching skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication; ability to present complex technical topics clearly.
  • Track record of developing technical standards and design tools that improve team performance.
  • Valid driver's license required.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to sit for extended periods during office-based work.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods during field visits.
  • Ability to walk on uneven terrain, gravel, and graded surfaces.
  • Ability to navigate active construction environments including stairs, ramps, and temporary walkways.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally.
  • Ability to wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including hard hat, safety glasses, steel-toe boots, FR clothing, and hearing protection.
  • Ability to travel to project sites as required.

Environmental Conditions

  • Combination of climate-controlled office work and outdoor construction environments.
  • Exposure to varying weather conditions including heat, cold, wind, and rain.
  • Exposure to noise, dust, and industrial conditions during site visits.

Driving & Safety-Sensitive Positions

This position requires a valid driver's license and compliance with Dashiell's motor vehicle policies. Incumbents must maintain an acceptable driving record throughout employment.
