Position Overview:

We are seeking an experienced Project Estimator to join our HVAC contracting team in Tomball, Texas. The ideal candidate brings 35 years of HVAC estimating experience, a strong field background, and working knowledge of the Houston/Tomball market including local codes, energy efficiency standards, and industry best practices.

In this role, you will be responsible for preparing accurate and competitive bids through detailed material and labor take-offs, managing material procurement, and supporting system design as needed. You will serve as a liaison between our internal office team, field operations, and clients and contractors, making professionalism, precision, and prompt communication essential to success in this position.

We are looking for a highly organized, deadline-driven professional with a consultative mindset, strong problem-solving ability, and the composure to perform at a high level.

This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled estimator who is ready to play a meaningful role in a growing company.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review architectural, mechanical, and engineering plans, specifications, and contract documents to develop comprehensive HVAC estimates for new construction, renovations, and service projects.
  • Perform accurate material and labor take-offs using industry tools and software.
  • Prepare detailed cost estimates, including equipment, ductwork, piping, labor hours, and overhead.
  • Solicit and evaluate supplier/subcontractor quotes; place and track material orders to support project timelines and budget control.
  • Assist with HVAC system design/layout when required (e.g., load calculations, equipment selection, duct/piping routing).
  • Collaborate with project managers, field teams, and leadership to refine estimates and ensure seamless transition from bid to execution.
  • Stay current on local building codes, energy efficiency standards, and HVAC best practices in the Tomball/Houston area.
  • Maintain estimating records, analyze historical data for accuracy, and support value engineering when needed.

Qualifications:

  • 25+ years of hands-on experience in HVAC estimating, take-offs, or related mechanical/HVAC roles.
  • Strong understanding of HVAC systems (residential and light commercial), equipment, installation methods, and materials.
  • Proficiency reading blueprints, schematics, and specifications.
  • Experience with estimating software (e.g., QuoteSoft, PlanSwift, FastPIPE, or similar) and Microsoft Office (Excel advanced).
  • Excellent analytical, mathematical, and organizational skills with high attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment while meeting bid deadlines.
  • Valid Texas driver's license and reliable transportation (Tomball office-based with occasional site visits).

Preferred:

  • Experience with HVAC system design (Manual J/D calculations, AutoCAD/Revit familiarity).
  • Familiarity with local Tomball/Harris County permitting and energy codes.
  • NATE certification, OSHA training, or other relevant credentials.
  • Prior experience in a mechanical contracting environment.
