Overview

ABOUT THE POSITION

Join our dynamic team as a Senior Project Engineer - Highway/Roadway design in Springfield, Massachusetts, with an opportunity for future growth within the organization. You will play a crucial role in enhancing our communities through sustainable and integrated project delivery. As a Senior Project Engineer, you will contribute to highway design, drainage design, traffic management plans, cost estimating, right-of-way, and layout plans. Our clients range from municipalities to state agencies and private partners, all invested in creating better places for people to live, work, recreate, and learn.

Responsibilities

    Serve as Task Manager/Senior Engineer for state and local clients.
  • Coordinate roadway design with drainage, utilities, structures, traffic, and environmental disciplines to ensure integrated project delivery.
  • Execute scope associated with project delivery for transportation design projects for all stages from Concept Development to Final Design and Construction Administration phase.
  • Prepare and review models, drawings, and specifications documenting the projects under design.
  • A strong knowledge in the MassDOT design process is desired.
  • Manage work and develop and mentor junior staff, providing them with technical and professional guidance.
  • Collaborate with other VHB professionals to deliver projects with an integrated thinking approach.
  • Monitor project performance.
  • Attend meetings with clients, regulatory agencies, and stakeholders to establish their needs and discuss transportation design/permitting issues.
  • Assist with strategy for expansion of transportation design services in Western Massachusetts.
  • Be part of developing new project opportunities, preparing/managing proposal submissions, and tracking of key client work programs.
  • Participate in professional organizations that promote relationships with clients and teaming partners.

  • Knowledge of roadway geometric design principles, including horizontal/vertical alignment, superelevation, and corridor development.
  • Thorough knowledge with MassDOT design standards.
  • Experience AutoCAD Civil 3D.

Qualifications

  • B.S. in Civil Engineering, transportation planning or similar discipline.
  • 8-11+ years of professional transportation engineering experience.
  • Current MA Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
  • Proven success in the transportation agencies and/or state & local government market sectors.

Our best estimate of the salary range for this position located in Springfield, MA is $110,000-135,000. The final compensation will be based on a variety of factors such as individual qualifications, education, and experience.
