JOB DESCRIPTION

Position Summary:

The Senior Program Assistant is a pivotal role responsible for supporting the Senior Program Manager in the delivery of EDMO programs. The main responsibility of this role is to act as a substitute for any role at site. This includes stepping into the Program Manager role regularly as they travel to other sites under their management. This role includes overseeing daily program operations, providing guidance and coaching to staff, and ensuring a positive experience for all participants, while taking on any additional responsibilities needed to ensure program success.


Primary Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Site Management: Senior Program Assistants regularly step in and oversee the site when the Senior Program Manager visits other sites. Senior Program Assistants must feel comfortable stepping in to run the day to day and calling the Senior Program Manager should any incidents arise that necessitate them coming back to site.
  • Program Support: Assist in the overall management of programs, including planning and executing daily activities such as snack time, outdoor play, homework help, SEL (Social-Emotional Learning), and STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics) activities.
  • Staff Supervision: Provide leadership and support to program staff, including mentoring and training new hires. Step into the Program Manager role when needed, managing the team and ensuring smooth program operations.
  • Student Interaction: Observe student behavior, assess appropriateness, and apply behavioral intervention techniques to support positive behavior choices. Foster a safe and engaging environment for students.
  • Parent Communication: Serve as a point of contact for parents, addressing concerns and providing updates on their child's experiences in the program. Maintain positive relationships with parents to ensure their satisfaction.
  • Relationships: Maintains a positive relationship with all site staff including Principals, Office Staff, Teachers and Custodians. Assists Senior Program Manager when needed by meeting regularly with any relevant site staff to ensure smooth collaboration between the EDMO program and host site and adheres to any and all site specifications.
  • Administrative Tasks: Assist with administrative duties, including maintaining attendance records, managing site inventory, and ensuring all materials are requested, received, and organized.
  • Program Implementation: Collaborate with the Senior Program Manager to plan and implement activities that are culturally relevant, developmentally appropriate, and aligned with EDMO values.
  • Safety and Cleanliness: Ensure program standards are met, including safety protocols and cleanliness of the program site.
  • Meeting Participation: Attend and contribute to staff meetings and training sessions. Lead team meetings and training sessions as needed.
  • Customer Service: Provide exceptional customer service by anticipating and addressing any issues involving children, staff, or parents.
  • Professional Development: Participate in all program training, professional development, and in-season meetings.
  • Other Duties: Perform other duties as assigned, stepping into the Program Manager role as necessary to ensure program success.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Previous experience in after-school programs or a similar educational setting. Experience in a supervisory or leadership role is preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Child Development, or a related field is preferred.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to mentor and guide staff.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. Ability to interact positively with students, parents, and staff.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to address and resolve issues in a timely manner.
  • Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with the Senior Program Manager and other team members to deliver high-quality programs.
  • Willingness and capability to step into the Program Manager role as needed and adapt to changing program needs.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Experience (and a love for!) working with kids
  • Experience working with groups of students
  • Experienced coach with teaching or educator support experience
  • A background in or familiar with SEL and STEAM learning methodology
  • Experience providing feedback

  • Previous camp or afterschool experience preferred
  • Classroom teaching experience and/or teaching credential is a huge plus but not required


Requirements:

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor's degree in related area and/or relevant experience
  • 48 college units or the ability to pass the Instructional Assistant Exam (will be administered by EDMO)
  • CPR/First Aid Certification is required by the start date. Certification must include an in-person CPR component. If you are not already certified, some compensation will be available.

COMPENSATION:This is a non-exempt position working 30 hrs/week. The hourly wage rate will be commensurate with experience and location.
