About the Role:

We are seeking an experienced Senior Tax Manager to lead complex tax planning, advisory, and compliance engagements within a public accounting environment. This role is responsible for managing a portfolio of tax clients, providing technical leadership, mentoring tax professionals, and partnering with senior leadership to deliver strategic tax solutions. The ideal candidate is a CPA who has successfully completed the CPA Canada In-Depth Tax and brings strong leadership, client management, and business development experience.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage a portfolio of tax clients, ensuring exceptional client service, quality, and timely engagement delivery.
  • Lead complex tax planning and advisory engagements while developing practical, strategic tax solutions.
  • Conduct technical tax research and prepare clear, well-supported recommendations on complex tax matters.
  • Review tax returns and other tax engagements prepared by staff for technical accuracy and compliance with Canadian tax legislation.
  • Partner with senior leadership to develop and implement tax strategies that support client objectives.
  • Manage engagement budgets, work in progress, billing, and overall project profitability.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop Managers and tax professionals through coaching, technical guidance, and performance management.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives that strengthen tax processes, quality, consistency, and operational efficiency.
  • Build and maintain trusted advisor relationships with clients by providing proactive tax guidance and exceptional service.
  • Identify new business opportunities, support practice growth, and collaborate across service lines to expand client relationships.
  • Stay current on changes to Canadian tax legislation and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications:

  • Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation or equivalent is required.
  • Successful completion of the CPA Canada In-Depth Tax
  • Minimum of 7 years of progressive tax experience in a public accounting environment.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a Tax Manager or Senior Tax Manager role.
  • Strong knowledge of Canadian tax planning, tax compliance, tax advisory, and tax research.
  • Experience reviewing complex tax returns and providing technical guidance to tax professionals.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain trusted client relationships.
  • Proven leadership experience mentoring, coaching, and developing high-performing teams.
  • Experience managing multiple client engagements, budgets, work in progress, billing, and competing deadlines.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, TaxPrep, CaseWare/CaseView, and tax research software.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
