About the role
As a Staff Process Engineer at D-Wave New Haven, you will be responsible for developing and implementing processes to fabricate both our current- and next-gen QPU designs. D-Wave New Haven is moving to an integrated-QPU architecture with a significant rise in process complexity vs. earlier designs; your job will be to adapt R&D processes to (low- to medium-volume) production, ensuring a stable and repeatable multi-layer process flow using SPC and in situ metrology. You will also be responsible for coordinating with the design and measurement teams to assess device performance and drive improvements to the process accordingly. This is a hands-on position; you will spend significant time in the clean room.
As a staff engineer, you will be responsible for mentoring and training junior process engineers and technicians, as well as presenting plans and results to executives and other stakeholders on a regular basis.
You will also be involved in the design, construction, and qualification of the new D-Wave New Haven clean room facility, which is being built over 2026 and 2027. This will include space planning, tool selection, facilities planning, and qualification of new tools/processes as they come online. Until the new facility is complete, your work will take a place in the Yale clean room facilities as well as on-site at D-Wave New Haven.
What you'll do
  • Responsible for driving the integration of D-Wave's integrated QPU fabrication process, moving it from development to production
  • Using tools such as JMP and Siemens OpCenterX to track process integration progress and success, identifying any roadblocks as they appear
  • Designing and executing experiments to improve device quality and process fidelity, and communicating the results to the fabrication team and other stakeholders
  • Operating tools such as metal deposition systems, electron-beam and optical lithography tools, and wet and dry etch systems in both the D-Wave and Yale clean room facilities
  • Routine maintenance of tools and facilities in the D-Wave lab, and qualification of new fabrication tools as needed
  • Design in situ metrology regimes to track the production and tool health at all steps via SPC

About You
  • 5+ years of (post-graduate) semiconductor or related industry experience
  • MS or Ph.D in electrical engineering, materials science, or related field
  • Proven track record of driving complex fabrication process development and integration, particularly small-to-medium-batch production
  • Some hands-on experience with troubleshooting and repairing fabrication equipment
  • Expertise in at least one of the following: Through-silicon vias, indium bump bonding/packaging, electron beam lithography
