Position Summary
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior Research Tax Credit (RTC) Associate to join our Houston-based team. Reporting to the Manager or Senior Manager, RTC, you will independently manage R&D tax credit studies, provide technical mentorship to junior associates, and act as a subject matter expert (SME) across a diverse set of client files. This hybrid role requires strong project ownership, collaborative spirit, and commitment to excellence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Mentor and develop Associate-level team members in partnership with senior leadership.

  • Demonstrate mastery of the RTC study process from start to finish.

  • Independently manage client files within scope and budget while overseeing file progress for managers.

  • Log and track activity in Salesforce CRM on a daily (preferred) or weekly basis.

  • Collaborate with engineers, scientists, lawyers, CPAs, and MBAs to analyze technical data and create client value.

  • Analyze confidential financial and technical data for tax credit qualification.

  • Ensure projects are delivered on time using strong project management skills.

  • Draft and review comprehensive technical reports and deliverables to support tax credit claims.

  • Become an expert in R&D tax credits and guide both clients and team members in best practices.

  • Assist with department initiatives focused on operational efficiency and knowledge sharing.

Required Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Accounting, Economics, or a related Science/Engineering field from an accredited university.

  • Advanced degree (MBA, JD, or LLM) strongly preferred.

Experience

  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in R&D Tax Credit and tax incentive programs within a professional services or consulting environment.

  • Proven ability to mentor and support junior team members.

Technical Expertise

  • Solid understanding of R&D tax credit qualification processes and client engagement best practices.

  • Strong analytical and research skills with working knowledge of relevant tax laws, regulations, and industry developments.

  • Proficiency with Salesforce CRM and advanced Excel functionality.

  • Professional credentials such as PMP, JD, or CPA are a plus.
