The Senior Tax Associate performs complex tax preparation, research, and planning. A self-starter who mentors by example, works with minimal direction, and learning how to plan with less directions. Strives to develop other team members by providing guidance and work direction. Takes on challenges and strives for personal and professional growth.
Essential functions
  • Successfully prepares challenging and complex federal and state tax returns primarily for individuals, partnerships, trusts, and corporations.
  • Prepare, review and organize tax information so it can be easily interpreted by a reviewer or client.
  • Recognize, anticipate and resolve tax issues; make recommendations to management team.
  • Seeks guidance and feedback from more senior employees as needed to limit rework by producing quality deliverables on the first attempt.
  • Effective prioritization of work based on deadlines and commitments; meets those deadlines and commitments by meeting productivity and efficiency standards.
  • Exceeds internal and client expectations by producing quality work, quick turnaround, and attentive services.
  • Assists in the development of other team members by taking the time to teach and share information and skills that are critical to their current and future work; makes oneself available to answer questions and is responsive.
  • Working with tax managers and directors on how to build, develop, and maintain positive client relationships by providing timely and unmatched client service while exceeding client expectations.
  • Working with tax managers and directors on how to deliver comprehensive, long-term tax strategies and consulting services.
  • Working with tax managers on how to accurately scope a new project and construct a fee estimate/budget.
  • Beginning to participate in the proposal process for potential new clients including the development of strategic tax planning.
  • Facilitates cross-communication between staff members who serve the same client.
  • Promote firm services to existing and prospective clients.
  • Effectively navigate various software programs and tools used by the firm.
  • Perform other duties as needed.

  • The work environment is an air-conditioned office setting with lighting and minimal noise.

Physical requirements:

Travel required
  • May travel as needed to other Byrne Zizzi locations or to meet with clients at their location.

Required education and experience
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance or related field.

Preferred education and experience
  • A current CPA license or CPA eligible working towards obtaining license.
  • Three (3) years' tax experience at a CPA firm.
  • Experience using Thompson Reuters Suite.
  • Intermediate to Advance knowledge working with spreadsheets including creating formulas, lookups, and analyze
  • Desire to grow professionally within the firm.
