Senior Electrical Engineer
VERUS is looking for a self-motivated, organized, and results-driven Senior Electrical Engineering Lead to join our close-knit team. This position allows for those with a degree in electrical engineering to grow and advance into a principal/lead electrical engineer position.
Our clients are important to us. We need someone who is accountable, well organized, takes pride in meeting deadlines and milestones, and enjoys a good challenge. Our ideal candidate is also analytical and detail-oriented, with an understanding of codes, standards, engineering best practices, and quality control. They also understand the balance between technical excellence and practical engineering.
In addition to core responsibilities, this role serves as a key operational anchor for our Reno office-providing daily mentorship and task management to team members while driving targeted project management initiatives across the organization.
Most importantly, we are looking for a person who will fit in with our existing team - someone who is authentic and trustworthy, with a good sense of humor, approachability, and humility. RESPONSIBILITIES
The responsibilities and attributes of the Senior Electrical Engineering Lead include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Team Leadership: Direct and oversee daily workflow for staff in the Reno office, ensuring accountability, and professional growth.
  • Project Management: Function as a project manager for internal and cross-functional initiatives-tracking project budgets, managing deliverables, monitoring timelines, and identifying process efficiencies.
  • Cross-Office Collaboration: Act as the primary liaison between the local Reno team and central management to align operational goals and maintain high-quality project execution.Perform in a Client facing role as senior electrical engineer on utility, industrial, and commercial electrical engineering projects.
  • Engineering and design of low-voltage and medium-voltage power distribution systems, lighting systems, and other electrical systems for utility, industrial, and commercial facilities.
  • Engineering and design of utility, industrial, and commercial control system integration, including interconnections and control panel design.
  • Execution, oversight, and overall design responsibility for electrical and controls engineering tasks associated with projects, including design, engineering calculations, and specifications.
  • Manage a project team working on comprehensive electrical and controls design packages including electrical and control diagrams, plans, details, panel arrangements, bill of materials, and hazardous area classification.
  • Coordinate the assigned electrical and controls work package deliverables, including coordinating with other disciplines and drafting teams. Prioritize and set deadlines, while also being adaptable and flexible to changing needs.
  • Ability to communicate well with team members and Clients, both verbally and in writing.
  • Provide mentorship and career development for engineering team members.
  • Experienced working in the field for engineering surveys and commissioning activities.

Requirements
  • Engineering experience: 8-10 years of experience in Electrical Engineering.
  • Leadership Experience: Additional 2-3 years of experience managing, leading, or mentoring team members in an office setting.
  • Project Execution: Demonstrated ability to manage projects from scope to delivery, including project cost tracking, schedule management, and cross-functional coordination.Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university.
  • Solid understanding of engineering practices and the development of engineering documents.
  • Professionally licensed in the State of California or able to obtain license by comity.
  • Solid basis of design and drafting using AutoCAD or Microstation (or both) is preferred.
  • EIT (FE) is preferred but not required. Intention to take FE or PE exam in near future, if not already, is a minimum requirement.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university.
